... the way, we stopped at Mozart’s house, which was admittedly a little anticlimactic. Anyway, the gardens are the site of several shots from The Sound of Music, which gave me a little more inspiration than usual while sketching. After getting a few drawings in, we headed over to the train station for my first falafel sandwich (they are everywhere in Europe, so this is surprising) and the beginning of our trip to Vienna!
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cmvanacker... and waited for the match and asked him why it wasnt kicking off but we had forgotton that our clocks went back last night and we were like an hour early ha ha so nothing for it had to drink big pints of larger again. Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria traceybelle... inside so I bought 2 postcards.

Then we drove to Hallein to see the salt mines which were OK, but nothing amazing... more a history lesson and not really worth the 17 Euro... Talking to Jessie back in the hostel room later she went to a different salt mine but it sounded pretty similar, except they got a different little bottle of salt at the end :)

Also went to the Celtic Museum in Hallein which was quite large, but everything was in German with no English ...
Salzburg, Austria richlum... litre of water - interesting huh!?!

Ps. We almost forgot, we stopped in Austria at a rest-stop, kind of like the equivalent of a fuel stop with ****** food back home, except the food here was awesome! In general, at these food stops, the food has been fascinating, fresh sandwiches, fresh hot food, juices, cakes, a bar, you name it. But this one really was superb. It had a guy making fresh potato pancakes with bacon and eggs and also a waffle bar, with the biggest fresh hot ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria dan-and-dee... office made of wood and knob and tube wiring. Next we saw the interior living quarters, which dated to medieval times. We also took a guided tour of the fortress history, torture utensils room, and up a cool spiral staircase to the top of a tower with quite a view. It sprinkled rain a bit, but we decided to walk down the hill back to town to go trinket shopping and get lunch. We ate at ...
Salzburg, Austria bigdhaas... residential street, but I would recommend other visitors find the exact location of the bottom of the funicular and a nearby parking garage and then ride the funicular up.

The fortress was great. We probably spent about two hours there and could have easily doubled that if we had taken the guided tour and if we had also studied the museum ...

Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria holertaAugust 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.
Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany pemalak... weather matched the day…glorious! In the evening, we went to a Farmer’s Buffet for dinner. It consisted of all the types of food that the local folks have. It was ok, but not my cup of tea. After dinner, though, we were entertained by a wonderful trio of singers doing songs from the Sound of Music. Great fun was had by all. It was then time to turn in and get ready for more adventures.
Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria pemalak... called "Mozart - Bilder und Klange" (pictures and sounds). There were portraits of Wolfgang's family, and other people that were part of Mozart's world - i.e. King George III and Queen Charlotte of England, who had invited Mozart's family, including his sister Nannerl, to come and play for the English court in London. Just an aside, Nannerl was just as gifted as Wolfgang, but was eventually forced to ...
