After staying out until 3am last night we still all managed to get up by 8.45 and out and about by 10 (ish). We walked to Vintgar gorge which had been highly recommended to us by our hostel owner, although she failed to mention the one hour ascent in blistering heat. Shout out to Anna for map reading and leading us all the way there, only helped by a couple of road signs and the occasional local to check that we were on the right track. Stopping halfway at a café was ...

I'm not sure why I'm doing those mileage figures other than as a rough guide to the distance it's going to be from Wales to Split (and probably back again). It's certainly not an accurate overall record of the distance we drive. For example, we did over 100 today, simply driving around northern Slovenia.

Hot in the day but not scorching and cool at night so you can ...

... her pride as she was taken out by the water and then managed to take out another innocent girl in the process. She spent the whole rapid apologising to the shocked girl who had entered the rapid without preparation, much the same as Katie. Thought we had lost Lucy as her swimming was not quite getting her towards the shore, instead she was flailing around and being carried down the river. Her 10.5 shoes were filled with water and therefore probably heavier ...

We got to the area about ten days before to acclimatize and do some training out on the course. June 30th was Ironman. I have not experienced the level of competition that existed here in any race before. Europeans are avid cyclists and most of the bikes were pretty high end. The route is gorgeous; along the lakeside, through small villages, and the countryside. A lot of it looks like a storybook or what you would ...
