Well, we finally got here after our harrowing experience of almost missing our flight from Paris we were the last ones on the plane with no one else in sight at the gate. All of this was due to the security officers strike and there being only three security checks for hundreds (maybe even thousands of people eager to fly our of Paris). We did have a good flight, though, and landed safely at the Vienna airport where we were met by the GYLC reps. Min immediately started to make friends with th...
Vienna, Austria cmyusepI just finished an afternoon of, first of all, figuring out some of the public transport system so that I will no longer be spending all of my spending money for transportation. When I took the taxi from Vienna to the Hotel Pyramide last night it only cost 18 Eur...this morning when I tried to take one from the hotel to my new hotel in inner Vienna it was going to cost me 32 Eur...go figure!! So, I bit the bullet and since it was daytime and I was able to read things clearly I learned what tr...
Vienna, Austria cmyusepToday was another long travel day, however unlike the last travel day; this one didn't start so well. After the standard continental breakfast, we all packed our bags and headed to the bus. Everything was going smoothly until I realised my charm bracelet was missing. After frantically searching the seat and my clothing, I asked Renee if anyone had picked up or handed in a bracelet. Her answer unfortunately was negative. SO I hopped off the coach, and enquired with reception, also nothing. In ...
Vienna, Austria croucherAnother day, another city to explore. We all set off on the bus to Vienna. Today Leonie and I headed off together leaving the boys to do their own thing. We still hadn't found a body piercing shop for Leonie, so we headed off in search of one. We looked everywhere, wandering the length and breadth of Vienna until we found the flea markets. We wandered through inhaling the delicious smells that permeated the market, whilst looking at the wares on sale. We'd pretty much given up the idea that t...
Vienna, Austria croucher I was woken this morning from a dream, and really didn't feel like getting up..half asleep we battled the shower, which I forgot to mention didn't have a shower curtain and a floppy hand held shower nozzle. So as a result we had a flood of the bathroom including the toilet seat. The same happened yesterday, and we just left all the towels wet on the floor!
Bags out by 7.15am, we had breakfast and were on the bus by 8am, our bags were close to follow..not the most effecient porter. We sett...
We had decided to do Schonbrun Palace and the Opera house as an optional excursion whilst in Vienna, as I had liked it alot the last time and Dan thought it would be good. The 7.30am time departure had deterred alot of the others, and as a consequence there was only 8 of us on the bus at 7.30am in the morning. It was hard to get up and out of bed at 6.30am, the breakfast at the hotel was nice enough and a few bread rolls were taken as backup food. We were at Schonbrun palace by 8am is...
Spent most of yesterday travelling on the bus to Vienna, Austria, with the usual stopoffs. Arrived at our hotel which was nice-was in the shape of a pyramid. Had dinner at a vineyard with musicians. Food was OK. Nothing to rave about. Went to a classical concert afterwards which was fantastic. Was in the music room at one of the palaces and included orchestra, opera singers and ballet dancers. Very tasteful and even those who don't like classical music would enjoy it. They played mainly Mozar...

... a large square right in the centre of the first district, which houses the Stephansdom. It was there that we were talked into seeing a concert that evening by a man dressed in traditional Viennese clothing, tights and all! Karl left us then to run some errands, so we decided to climb the steps of the tower in the Stephansdom (an enormous cathedral) for a stunning 360 degree view of Vienna. The concert was really good, a classical orchestra that ...
Vienna, Austria jessicae... of the rest of the time in Barcelona was just spent wandering around, checking out entertainment on the street, and a bit of shopping. I was not a very happy camper having to leave that awesome apartment in Barcelona this morning, with visions of the London hostel dancing in my head. After we arrived at our hostel in Vienna, that all went away. It's about 10000 times better than the one in London was - we have a room with just 2 other people ...
