Historical Traveler Reviews of Aurum Hotel And Suites Queenstown
A very good place to stay.
from texas1
We stayed at this hotel for a total of three nights during two different visits.
The people are immensely helpful and the hotel rooms are nice. BE SURE YOU REQUEST A ROOM AT THE BACK OF THE PROPERTY, off the street. And upstairs, if possible. That will solve the noise problems off the street as noted by previous posters. We did this our second stay and we were completely happy.
The hallways might be a little musty but the rooms are just fine. Shower heads are good (my pet peeve), and you can do laudry in the hotel for free, which is a nice perk.
Breakfast was good and location terrific. Within walking distance of just about everything.
We had no problems with this hotel and would stay there again (and actually did!).
Not my cup of tea
from Jimforever
Double room spacious and well apppinted but felt more like the master bedroom of the neighbouring one bedroom suite - no peephole in the door, common outer door. Also noise from the neighbouring suite's TV was a problem, and the doors all slammed too noisily.
Another big minus was the curtains - totally inadequate in terms of blackout. Add to that some venetian blinds on the other window and you'll need a blindfold to lie in.
Considering I paid over $200, I'd have expected better.
What a View at a Great Place
from Thoughtfulconsumer
We stayed a week there in an apartment style suite. It was great! There was a full kitchen to use if you wanted. A washer and dryer were there as well as a TV and CD player and inroom computer broadband connection-cool.There's even rental computers with internet connections in the lobby. The hotel is situated very nicely so walking to town is only a short walk, leave your car at the underground parking. Our room was up front and the front part of the room was walled with glass with a balcony to the side of that. The view of Queenstown,Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables, and all the surrounding hills and dales were enjoyable to us 24 hours a day...one of the best views from a hotel in the world. Not all the rooms had the same dynamic sweep, but all rooms had a dynamic view of the area. A drawback to this convienece is that the hotel is situated on the main drag into town so for better or worse you will see and hear people and traffic if you are at the front of the hotel, but that is where the great scenery is. It was annoying at first but we got to sort of enjoy the comings and goings of the town as time went by. There's a restaurant with this place and it mostly caters to tours passing thru and staying over night at another hotel that share's the property with them, A-1 Hotel I think is the name. So breakfast is weak here. You can walk to Queenstown and breakfast there, but not much opens before 9:30-10:00 (really). We would usually get baked stuff from the food store in town, the day before, and eat and watch Queenstown wake up (note:the bake stuff in NZ is fantastic-don't pass it up).The staff were very helpful and were familiar with most of the tourist stuff that was available and could make recommendations. I couldn't have been more pleased with Aurum and if I get back to Queenstown, that's where I'm staying.
Great place to stay!

The Aurum suites are a great place to stay. The suites are very spacious, stylishly decorated and really well equipped. We had everything we needed and there was so much space to relax in. The setting was extremely quiet, we had nice views of the lake and mountains, and found the staff really friendly and helpful. You can also book for private use of the jacuzzi and sauna which is a nice touch.
I would thoroughly recommend the Aurum suites for a touch of luxury in Queenstown!
Almost perfect!

Stayed here in Feb '05 for two nights. They upgraded us to a suite free of charge - I'm assuming because we were among the few guests not part of a tour group. Other than the steep climb back from town, it is a great hotel. Rooms are very nice - best place we stayed anywhere in New Zealand. The staff was excellent and very helpful in booking trips for us.
Like other hotels that cater to tour groups, they have a mediocre breakfast buffet - there are better places down the hill if you have the time in the morning.
Great place

Very central Excellent facilities and staff. I have stayed at them twice in the last 12months and would highly recommend them to anyone
Modern, impressive
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed for three nights, and were highly impressed (especially for the price we paid). The rooms are modern, fashionable, clean, and spacious. We stayed in a twin share room. Was impressed by the spacious bathroom, containing a separate bath and large shower (with powerful pressure!)
Service was great. The staff helped us book sky diving and jet boating. They even had board games we could borrow when we wanted a quiet night in (and didn't look at us too strangely when we asked!)
Laundry facilities are free to use, but you have to pay for washing powder. The location is great - it's only a short walk (down a steep hill) to the town centre. There's also undercover carparking, but it fills up pretty quickly. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard; not the best, but I've seen plenty worse. The layout is a little confusing, as it shares its reception with the A-Line motel - I think it's all part of the same complex.
Definitely a place I would recommend.

Great apartments with everything. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was rather large and included full kitchen with crockery etc, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer, dining table, 2 lounges, stereo system/ CD player. Very nice room with ample space. The complex had a complimentary locker for ski equipment downstairs which was very handy. Thermostatically controlled heating which was exceptional. All round highly recommended. Would stay again if visiting Queenstown NZ.
Well situated in Queenstown

Somewhat confusing since the Aurum is the apartment/suite part of the A-Line Hotel. In Queenstown, you have to say that you are staying at the A-Line otherwise a lot of people can't figure out where you are.
Unfortunately, we had a ground floor suite-which always makes me concerned about security. Other than that, our 2 bedroom suite was quite nice. The setup is a little weird. First you go through a primary door into a small alcove which has 2 separate locked doors-each entering a different room. Other than that, the amenities-including a small kitchen and your own washer dryer make for a very convenient setup. The short steep walk is also good for some exercise after you have a huge dinner! Not too long to feel like you can't make it, but steep enough to give you a bit of a workout.
Full marks to the Aurum
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Aurum is in a fantastic location only 3-4 minutes walk from the centre of town, up a (short & steep) hill. The rooms are very well appointed (also with a fridge and toaster - handy for breakfast), and many have views over the town, lake and mountains, with balconies. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and there's a gorgeous hotel cat named Oscar. You can book all your activities, ski shuttles, etc in the lobby where there is a huge open fire and small bar (the lobby is actually nicer than it looks in the brochures I saw). Overall a really superb place to stay, I'll definitely go back.
