I couldn't sleep at all Tuesday night. I was nervous and axious about my journey to Nome. It's always nervewracking to start a new job, but to add living in such a new place with new people anddd add the extra hassle of the massive commute, well, it is understandable. I was up at 0600 on Wednesday, packed my tub with my clothing and frozen food for the week, and set off to the airport. I would be working week on, week off at the prison in Nome, so I brought ...

Took a morning flight from Anchorage to Nome. Nome is far west on the Bering Sea, just 1000 miles from Russia. It is also the end point of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. The flight was on an Air Alaska Boeing 737-400 "combi" aircraft plane which is divided into a passenger and cargo carrier. Cargo in front, and passengers ...

Today is our last day at sea as we head for Nome, Alaska . We arrive tomorrow on September 1 exactly 108 years to the day that Roald Amundsen arrived in Nome having finally discovered and navigated the fabled North West Passage . For us it has been one truly fascinating , educational and humbling experience made even more special with the knowledge that we ( approximately 120) will be the only tourists to navigate the passage this ...

Nome was our second stop of this weekend trip. It was a 45 minute flight south of Kotzebue. I think we were 30 miles above the Arctic Circle in Kotzebue and Nome is probably about 50 miles south of the Arctic Circle. At one time Nome was the most populated city in Alaska with over 12,000 residents, but not it has about 3,500. It is famous for the finish line of the Iditarod dog sled race and claiming to be the largest ...

I HATE flying. Thank goodness for melatonin and alcohol. That's all.

    Here's Tom . . .

OK, the subject today is "eye candy." Dayna knows me well enough after 30+ years of marriage to know I wouldn't miss this subject. I would like to pay particular compliment to China Airlines' Human Resources. All of the flight attendants on this flight looked like they had been hired from a high class Chinese modeling agency. They ...
