Day 45 - Noordwijk to Ijmuiden

Rain's back, time to be off. We've bags of time to spare so it's back into town for some last-minute shopping. And then a leisurely drive up the coast in search of a bakery and a coffee. Unfortunately the road goes inland and, in spite of my efforts, we don't see the sea again until we arrive at the boat. However we do find some interesting byways and did eventually find a handful of shops outside Haarlem. But still ...

        The ferry home to Newcastle

... took 7.6 litres for the 114 miles I had done. I may have made it all the way to the ferry port but did not want to chance it. Once at the ferry port I will fill it again for my journey home from Newcastle.

After an extremely fast journey so far I was soon into Netherlands and now had to watch my speed as unlike Germany speed limits now apply.

The roads here were slightly more busy but all was moving and sitting at about 80 mph...that was until ...

We awoke to a grey wet day. I have learned that spring in
Holland is wet and windy. The best part of this is that one is really able to
sleep in, in the morning as the mornings are cold, unlike our mornings in South
Africa, where the early morning heat chases you out of bed. (How’s that for a
        positive statement?)

The morning dawned sunny and clear without wind. Amazing,
and how awesome to have such perfect weather to celebrate the wedding of my
niece Saskia to her husband to be Alexander Schoep. Stef and Jan headed into
town to buy wedding clothes whilst Corrine and I headed off for a quick cycle
trip to the beach where we saw a sky full of kite boarders braving the strong
North Easterly wind. The horizon is interesting in that it is dominated ...

Today is my birthday and we were especially excited as we had received a message from our son Justin that his wife Nicky had gone into labor that evening. So an early morning check up at the wifi zone but still no news. The weather was cold and wet but one cannot spend all day in a combi with four people so we put on rain coats and warm stuff, grabbed bicycles and set out ...
