... The sun was just up as we caught our first glimpse of the muli-coloured behemoths. We clambered up into a large whicker basket which held 12 passengers and our pilot Bob. Despite having an abject fear of heights Jo showed remarkable calm as we gently lifted off the ground and gained height over the waking valley.

A strange feeling of motionlessness enveloped us as the valley seemed to move below us. We continued to rise and we were treated ...

... up and reluctantly headed out of our camp at Curry Village. We drove out towards the southern end of Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Giant Sequoia Grove. It's about an hours drive from the village to the Mariposa Grove all through the wooded hills of Yosemite. Chug ...

... Also there was lots of bridge repair going on and we encountered many delays. We arrived in Napa at the C******ny Lodge at 6pm. After getting settled we decided to walk to a restaurant we had learned about which was farther than we thought (1 1/2 miles). The food at the Allegeria was very good Italian. We had the bartender call for a cab to take us back to the lodge. All in all a good ...

... lasted two hours though before giving up and heading home. The first vineyard, Black Stallion, did provide free tastings but the wines were so expensive that we didn't want to waste their time. Prices ranged from $60 - $160 with their 'plain wrap' kind of wine was at $30+. We tasted a $75 red and a $30 red and they were not as good as Mark's $12 quaffing wines from Dan Murphy's back home! We have clearly been very spoilt in Australia with high quality wine at ...
