Since we arrived in Trieste in July we have had barely two consecutive days without rain, often of biblical proportions. In pelting rain on a flooded campsite we review our travel plans this morning, abandon all thoughts of northern Germany and Holland and head south west into France. ... watching in almost silence for that first glimpse through the rain. Then in the distance he appeared, a lone lead rider. Hair standing on end stuff for me, a really special moment to see my first rider at the Tour. The leader speed past and was shortly followed by the remainder of the peleton. Five minutes later it was over and the crowd headed back down the hill to the town proper. Hard to believe I had attended the Tour De France....might have to do it again ...

... little wooden bungalows for two nights so we could do some cooking instead of restaurant eating. Unfortunately, we only had a cursory peek in the window of the bungalow, taken in by its' cute exterior, and when we moved it, found it dark and grimy. Even the dishes were not all that clean.
