... you pay a tourist tax but that also entitles you to free public transport. We caught a trolley bus into the main part of town. On the way the bus got pulled over by the cops, that was a first. I think he got a warning because we were soon on our way. The town is really hilly and you need to take a train to go from one side to the other.
The next day we took a boat along the lake to ...

We finished another long day, from Champex, Switzerland. This is the northern most point on the TMB trail. About 3 hours into our hike, in the middle of a cow pasture high above the valley we encountered the Alp Bovine cafe! It was almost at the high point of our hike today. We had a sandwich and. Old drink there before continuing to Hotel De La Forclaz. The hike ...

Day 11 TMB After the best breakfast of my whole tour, I had an easy walk down the valley for a couple of hours. Along the way a snake wriggled across my path - he was about as thick as my pole and maybe a metre long! No idea if he was poisonous or not? My shoes felt a size too small for me today but after another couple of hours uphill, I was back where I had started last week, in Champex-Lac. No gold medal, no applause but I had completed my Tour ...

Cold pizza for breakfast. A first for me I think. And very nice it was too. Followed by a lovely walk along Lake Geneva. Right round to the far eastern end and then south. It all looked amazingly like one of these huge model railway layouts. Even had some trains up on the hillside and more down near the shore. Actually they had been about 40 yards from my tent last night but I was ...

... until it was 34 (yes 34!!) degrees last week, and I was sleeping with a sheet. But today it rained all day, didnt get above 10 degrees, snowed on the mountains that we hike on, and I'm back to a winter duvet and a blanket!! It's pretty much as warm and cold as Whangarei gets, in the space of a week! The bugs are also fascinating. It's a really bad year for ticks, which I've never seen before, so every time you go in any grass you're supposed to ...
