... During this time Sal and David's 2 cats were regularly coming to the table and Jane was delighted when the ginger and white cat jumped onto her knee, curled up and started purring. We must say that this was an extended lunch - 3 hours long. Surely the French way?

An earlier start this morning - we were on the road by 8.20 so we could hit the autoroute. We got as far as La Rochelle, well to be exact, just off the coast: the Ile de Re. What a beautiful spot. It was a relatively short drive from Brantome to La Rochelle, with the majority of the drive on very good secondary roads through pretty forests and farm land. So although we started late after the tour of the abbey we still made it to our hotel by two o'clock.
