Today's walk was magnificent up in rocky remote hills with vistas that went on forever. It brought out the Scottish in both of us - ancient stone walls, small trees and shrubs, wind, little relief from the elements etc. and cows but few sheep. We came across a hamlet with a cafe that had the biggest berry tart we had ever seen - 2.5 feet in diameter. Good expresso too. Joanne was smiling. No one else came in for 30 minutes but their loss. We shared an apple tart that had ...

Today, despite the forecast, there was no rain and good cloud cover so we didn't get too hot in the openness of the plateau. I don't think this area of France has had much action over the centuries and any action is from the cows. Lots of young calves! I opened the hotel room door this morning and ran into the French man who was the first hiker we ...

... places are closed on Mondays including the shops in our town so we can't stock up on supplies tonight. Lots of downhill today and towards the end of the day I developed shin splints and am in a fair degree of pain. Uphill is easier so I am hoping for lots of uphill tomorrow. It will likely be a slow day as it is a 27km walk. Too bad Malcolm carrying my pack wouldn't cure ...

... sausage - ham and wild boar along with pickled mushrooms. Then came salad and quiche. I thought we were done. Silly me. She went back to her house and returned with veal stew and cauliflower!! Then we had a tray of about 9 cheeses followed by a huge piece of plum pudding. I surrendered! Joanne did a fantastic job communicating with the lady and we had a great talk about our families etc. A priceless evening. Sent ...

Today was hot and hilly. We had trouble not only drinking enough water but finding it. Only one cafe today after about 2 hours of walking so it was a good thing we bought food for a picnic lunch. So far the Spanish appear to make much better coffee than the French. Absolutely stunning vistas today. A lot of the path today was very rocky. It was definitely a hard hike and some people were completely exhausted and not prepared for the hike. We are sitting as I ...
