Geneva to Paris to Sedan to Bastogne

... is the hardest part" he told me.

As I left Mr. Gillissen, to follow up on an e-mail I had sent about a week earlier, I called Mr. François who lives up near Liège. I hoped to stop and see him and his wife tomorrow morning, but he told me he was having x-rays done (he has been diagnosed with cancer). He said he was sorry but we wouldn’t be able to meet this time, but he thanked me for trying. He sounded very positive. He’s in no pain, and told me he’s at peace ...

Our Day in the Country

... area about 5 minutes outside of town that she takes the dogs to. It is a huge farm and there is a road that winds all the way around it. It took about an hour to walk the length of the road. The dogs love it. It was a bit chilly, especially when the wind was blowing. Conrad had to stop and feed some cows. It was fun to play with the dogs.

When we got back to the car, we went to see a waterfall. It was a ...

City in the trees

Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.

From Fairy Tale Land back to World War II

... we ever surprised when we drove into town and were met with the most fairy tale perfect little village. If one did not believe in Princess and dragons before you will when you sleep under guard of the Vianden Castle. The castle was built between the 11th and 14th centuries and became the seat of the counts of Vianden. It was further developed until the 18th century but with the departure of the Counts of Luxembourg to the Netherlands combined with the effects of fire and an ...

Orientation Trips and Experiences

... We didn't visit the town, but we did sit in on a Vesper Service in the local monastery. I don't know too much about the meaning behind the service, but it is the monks' evening prayer ritual in which they do Gregorian chants and read some scripture. It was very beautiful and interesting. Following the service, we all returned home. That was the end of our orientation trips. Enjoy the photos!

Princess for a day!

... all of Vianden. We stood there for a while just taking it all in and than continued on in our castle of mystery! We saw shinning silver knight suites and a beautiful alter in the chapel. We had everything a princess would want, except for a prince of course (but who really needs a prince I mean we were princesses and could do whatever we wanted, a prince would have been just a bonus really). After ...

Castle Vianden and a posh dinner!

... made the reservation for me because I was a bit worried about not being able to communicate in French over the phone! We got a bit lost on the way and arrived about 10 mins late so first task was apologising in French. I'm quite impressed with myself that although I know I didn't say it all correctly, I successfully communicated in French for the duration of the meal with all waiters/waitresses :) Toit pour Toi didn't disappoint, it was a ...

... small country, all the cartoons on TV and in the newspaper seemed to not have words, just gestures and sound. The weather was kind of grey, the food was good. We discovered Croque Monsieurs (like grilled cheese sandwiches with ham -delish!)

Paris to Luxembourg

... Casemates - tunnels and chambers dug to further fortify Luxembourg city. Saw Notre Dame church and walked along the park at the bottom of the valley where we found an old church built into the side of the hill. Luxembourg is a beautiful medieval valley.
