The pre-trip

So I haven't actually flown out yet, but I'm planning to.. In 9 hours. I just wanted to get my fans pumped up to read more about my adventures.

It's snowing a lot outside (in GFPK). I foresee a nice 1.5 hour bus ride from downtown Montreal to PET airport.

... people going elsewhere. Street artists were showing seasonal paintings - snow covered spiral staircases, snow on the streets, snow on the roofs. We truly felt a snow anticipation in the air

Uphill from a plaza was Quartier Latin where we had an evening coffee. Waiters kept asking us in French and we could not shake off a feeling of being in a magnificently unreal place

Several times we saw signs "Come back in May". I wonder...

Oh by the way we are taking another cruise in the southern Caribbeans this time in February, visiting places like Aruba, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica Grand Cayman and Miami.

A non-stop city!

... view of the cross atop the hill. In the evening I headed down to the port for a view of the South African entry into the fireworks competition (10 countries each have a Saturday night to impress the judges). It was pretty impressive and the more open space made it not quite a deafening as the fireworks at Edinburgh Castle!

Yesterday I walked down to the Old Town and port for a look around. To keep me fit I also climbed up the Clock Tower that marks the entrance to the ...

Chez moi (a.k.a my place)

After much frustrating house searching we finally managed to find a nice little 3 bedroom apartment in the downtown Montreal area. Not a huge place but convenient location, close to the main street (Saint Catherine) and shops & metro stations... which I think will be important once the temperatures start to get below zero (so far its been pretty good, although we have had one day of snow!) We had a bit of an ...

Montreal to Boston

Ohhhhhh kay. In Montreal, I had to run across the whole airport because my first flight was delayed. That sucked... Anyway, I ended up being early, sweating and panting, I run up to the flight attendant and demand the plane is stopped! She says, don't worry, there's no one on it yet. "Oh...OK"... I quickly cease panicking ...

Our First Day in Montreal

... restaurant which we enjoyed. It was quaint, but noisy, probably because it was pretty small. They took good care of us and we appreciated it all. When it was over we strolled back past the cathedral of Notre Dame. I am looking forward to going inside sometime soon. As we came home we crashed into our stiff bed and called it a night. We hoped to wake to another good day in Montreal. We knew it would have to be good, it was our anniversary.

Happy Birthday, Michael!

... beautiful building which houses shops and restaurants.  On our way out of the mall, we stopped to get our bearings. Apparently we looked lost because a nice gentleman approached us and asked, "Parlez vous francais (do you speak French)?" to which we replied, "No, parlons anglais (no, we speak English)." Suddenly, he reverted to English (a skill we have come to admire about this very diverse population, many of whom are multi ...

Home again

... dinner and meet-up a couple of weeks later for the Montreal contingent. I can honestly say that I kept in touch with people on this trip a lot better than I did with people on longer trips. Was it because of our shared bond as Jews and our ties and connections through the network already? I don't know. But it was nice. Goodbye, Israel. Hello Montreal.
