Up bright n early this morning. Packed our bags. Dragged them through the underground. Finally found the right platform. Got on our train. Got off the train. Then managed to get completely lost trying to get out of Montparnasse station. Felt like a rat in a maze. Was beginning to lose hope of ever seeing the light of day. Eventually we did break …

... of safety, we walked up the steep hill at the far end. By the church we found a market then pedalled onto to Pointe du Grouin, a rocky headland with views on all sides and nice paths to walk down to the waters edge. There were hundreds of people there, passing through, including people on a horse trek. Unfortunately as we turned to leave, Geoff found he had lost his specs. We had planned a slower start to the day, but on checking the weather forecast we found there was a window of dry weather between 7 and 11am . We have become very practiced at packing up and loading the bikes and so did it in record time this morning. Downstairs, there was not a person around and no sign of breakfast although it was 7.45am so we decided to head away. We rode out to Mont St Michel along a dedicated bike ...

Our itinerary says 48 kms today from Fougeres to Pontorson. This morning we were treated to 20 kms of cycle paths through pretty farm land and acres and acres of maize fields. There were a few locals running, biking or walking their dogs but in general really quiet and lovely. It looked like it may have been a rail way track in years gone by and there was the odd tunnel but otherwise no sign of any tracks. Our first stop was at Antrain where we ended up coming into town completely the ...

... barking to protect their houses as we rode by. We rode for 20 kms and then stopped in a small village where we queued with the locals to buy bread and fruit tarts for morning tea. The streets didn't get any busier so we kept on biking, Geoff in the lead so he could navigate and me pottering along behind. My legs were feeling like lead, I'm not sure whether it's the 2 glasses of medincial red wine last night, my cold, the previous ...
