... Col de Port (1249m) – although fairly long, it never gets really steep. The descent is steeper in places, and took us almost all the way to Tarascon-sur-Ariège, famous for its prehistoric cave paintings. ... stop is at a beautiful campsite just outside the spa town of Ax de Therme. We stock up on foodstuffs and liquor at a supermarket just down the road and feast on bread and cheese, bananas and biscuits before turning in soon after 9pm.

With few more southern barbs to the South Caroline trio....any time you mention them...its okay to insert the banjo tune from Deliverance....its what I do .... and ...

The sun was out for our day off. These rest days do not feel like days off, as you have to make your way into town, do your washing and drying, go to the internet cafe to do the blog, and visit a supermarket to stock up for the next stretch. You can't lie in, as by the time you get into town, all the shops are closed because everywhere in the Pyrénées, in peak tourist season, decide to close from 12:30 until 15:00! After visiting tiny villages, and modest towns, I ...
