Our target for the day was to explore the Auvergne area, and see the landscapes with more than 400 volcanoes. Some of the volcanoes are as old as 65 million years, and the youngest about 7'600 years.

... he’d heard the shifting gears and engine noise as we approached this time.

We arrived back at Ned’s crash site, and he’s livened right up, starting to wriggle and ready to go. I jumped out to put him down in some grass, and as I crossed the road a car came. Rushing to get off the road, I ran through and overgrown drain… full of stinging nettles. OWWWW!! My legs were hot with stinging barbs but all I wanted was for wee Ned to fly off ...

... ringing. We decided to give them the right away and let them pass. We drove to a nearby ski town Monte-Dore just to look around. For some reason the town was bustling with people, clowns and various outdoor entertainment. We wandered a bit, did some obligatory soccer time and got some dinner for back at home. And a bit further north again......seeking climbing. The book says it's rich pickings around here in this small ski resort. It probably is......but we didn't hang aground to find out. It dropped to about 4 deg at night and we woke up in the clouds.......and rain. So we moved on again.

... tops but still. We still got in a half hour hike - Caleb's legs are strong and he has been doing awesome on walks. I recall in my youth not enjoying hiking - a nice way to put it :) Got some great photo's and we stopped in a nearby town for some dinner before the drive home. Day 1 complete with rental car and no accidents = Yeah ...
