... evening we had a super night with Cousin Dan and Sheila in their very nice village of Scotch Corner (I think a population of 350). After very sad good byes we are now back in Chamonix. It's always hard leaving Aunty Chris and Neville. Interesting for us, Chamonix felt like "coming home". The snow is further down the mountain, the trees are all golden and we are now off to watch NZ v Australia in the Grand Final. Go the Mighty All Blacks. ...

It has the most amazing delicatessen and cheese selection, where one can meander, admiring the handiwork of the chef, and buying mere morsels of the huge selections of pates and terrines to try later. The lovely ladies behind the counter have now understood my struggles with requests in French and have ...

Last Wednesday I arrived at Lionel's home in Beaumont, France. Lionel and his girlfriend, Marie-Ange, have the most beautiful home nestled in the countryside between the Jura Mountains and Mt. Salève. Marie-Ange has a son, Marko, who is thirteen, and they have a handsome dog, Sangoan, and two cats, Chum and Joy.

The past week has mostly been me settling in and "making my mark" (a french expression, of which I am learning many, thanks to Lionel ;-) It ...

I found it difficult to sleep last night with the thought of what was going to be coming in the next several days. I was reasonably confident that I would be able to do the first day, but what of the next days. Today my climb was through a pass called Col de la Colombiere with an average grade of 6%, a climb of 1100 meters, over a distance of 16km. My whole ride today from start to finish was to be 102km to our final destination near Albertville. After ...
