      ... back down the mountain we have the cable car to ourselves. Back on the ground we intend to catch the local bus back to the station. Oh no as we leave the building, across the road us get taxi that bought us up here. He had waited for us. Lucky for us the bus dame and we got on.       ... fell asleep in one of the pools.

      As I was getting a bit too hot from the sun and the hot thermal water, I decided to go to the other side of the facility to the public pools. One of the rules of the onsen is that once you are finished you do not rise off. The minerals in the the water must be absorbed into the skin to provide what ever healthy benefits that onsen is known for.

      ... luck to be the only one there. I took three onsen baths today. I loved each and every one of them. The dinner I got at the ryokan was the most culinairy thing I had until that day. My apologies about the huge amount of food pictures! The food felt so special, I just had to take pictures of it. The small bowls of Japanese food were all local products and really pretty. I didn't know what I was eating. Everything except that pickled **** the Japanese like so ...

      ... I wanted to try one of the biggest and most populair onsen of Beppu to actually relax. That also didn't work out. The place was closed for a couple of days... (Is die dicht...) So I decided to get some late lunch which I steamed myself in some natural steam. It was a fun experience! The footsteam bath I did while waiting was torture though... I don't know what the hell ...

      Beppu didn't quite live up to my expectations but they were probably too high. I stayed in a Ryokan - traditional Japanese accommodation - and while it was nice it was a bit run down.
