... a circle - the heraldic symbol of the U.S. I walked up the stairs to the top and could see in all directions, but the monument itself was more impressive than the view.
We stopped at a couple of other smaller memorials and then at the edge of Jacques woods, part of the Ardenne Forest. This is an area where some of the hardest battles were fought in December of 1944. We walked into the woods and saw what remains of the foxholes that ...

He was lost on the 3rd April 1943, while flying a Lancaster sortie over Germany. He rests, with his mates lost at the same time, in the Reichswalde cemetery. We have been to many WWI and WWII cemetery's on our trip, including places in Germany, Belgium, France and Italy, so it was fitting that this was our last. The ...

... all the others until I realised it was a fly on the screen. Most disappointing though was the BBC commentary. It added nothing. In fact most of the time it was a distraction. A number of B or C list celebrities taking the opportunity to promote themselves, none of them telling us what was actually happening. Repeated mentions of the peal of bells which preceded the parade, the bands and the orchestras, but did we get ...
