The small town of Beaune! This city was a very nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Paris and Versailles. The charm of Beaune is that it is in the middle of wine country here in France. There are vineyards that stretch for miles around the borders of the town.

We started the day with a very tasty Beaune breakfast. Croque Madame for myself and ...

... in support. This was before we knew our support would have us waiting in the Versailles rain until 11am. Remember how I said we were there at 8am?

When we finally got in, all of our cold frustrations had vanished. The palace is incredible. Some of the exhibits were closed, but we got to see the Hall of Mirrors, the King's Quarters, the Queen's Quarters, and a few other ...

After breakfast, depart Paris for the renowned province of Burgundy, one of France's eleven major wine-producing regions. Perhaps more than anything else, France is known for its legendary wine, which is part of the country's heritage and a great source of national pride. Wine has been produced in France for centuries, and in Burgundy there are vineyards nearly ...

... cheeses, oh, the cheeses! Because we're leaving tomorrow and have a stretch of hotel living before us we weren't able to buy any foodstuffs, so we had to content ourselves with getting a whetted appetite for lunch at the Brasserie Carnot, the above mentioned purveyor of local Burgundian dishes!

The brasserie is on a corner of the bustling Place Carnot and ...

      Beaune - a great town

A travel blog entry by robertsingleton on Jul 17, 2014

This morning we awoke in the perfect little Baune campground, complete with manicured hedgerows between sites, to a leisurely breakfast. At 11am, we packed up the van and drove 3 minutes down to the outer rampart of the old city where parking was free and easy (for once). Beaune is considered a center for the Burgundy wine trade and has been since early medieval times. It's cart-wide streets are packed with caves, French for wine tasting rooms. ...
