... which Jacques piloted, and he took us into the lovely collection of small little islands, nestled in turquoise. memory: the last time I was in Arki was with Rick 20+ years ago. I remember clearly the shallow, crystal clear, turquoise waters filled with beautiful fish, and lots of sea urchins. Jacques brought a net bag, and he and Rick collected maybe 40 of these spiky animals. Whilst I was snorkeling back a forth in these lovely, warm waters, between two islands. There ...

Saw Mykonos and it's lights glide past at 2.00 am when we got up to look out our balcony! Slept well and awoke at 5.30 to see the sunrise over Patmos as we dropped anchor. Built like a fortified castle to repel pirates about the 10th century the monks could pour boiling oil down ...

... and we were the early birds. Old folks dance until the wee hours along with the young and very young. We noticed a real sense of joy and community. Why do we like Ikaria? I don't know, maybe because it seems authentically small town Greek and laid back. It's a carefree, upbeat place where people watch out for one another. It is beautiful. Our relatively inexpensive hotel room is perched right over the Aegean Sea. Joanne loves watching the intensely ...

We spent the morning on Ikaria, an island untouched by tourism. It was so nice to wander in a village seeing the locals just doing their day-to-day chores, not trying to sell things to tourists. It felt 'real'. In the afternoon we headed for Delos and put the sails up for the first ...
