Despite Whiplash, Bunnies and 2 Real Bitches

... a bloody nightmare. Carrying heavy bags through the docks till we reached our ferry was a tad painful given our various ailments. However we settled into our 'couchettes’ and had an agreeable journey.

However, on our arrival at the yard at 03.15, despite our instructions to the yard, the boat was securely locked and the office well closed. Luckily Bob, the yard manager, woke up and after trying bolt cutters and hacksaw, eventually cut the ...

Down day and Bodrum Castle

... including "best friend," which we thought was very cute. Today we got moving fairly early and headed to Bodrum to see the castle and underwater archeology museum. This is a great daytrip because you really get a two-fer there. You can explore the castle and the underwater archeology museum is a bonus (you might call it a three-fer because you get some very nice views of the Bodrum harbor as well). There are a couple places inside where you can get drinks and hang out. There is ...

... to see the sarcophagus of Queen Ada. Only discovered in 1989, Ada died in approximately 350 BCE and was probably the sister of Mausoleus. The castle itself was built in 1402 by the Knights Hospitaller. It was rebuilt in 1522 by The Crusaders using stones from the nearby ruins from the Mausoleum.

I have a few pics AND a USB port, but forgot my cord. I'm off for the 5 hour bus ride to Fethiye.

Foraging in the (city of) Bodrum

... hard to come by so happily I accepted the invitation to sip chai with them and their friends by the harbour just next to the castle. Actually I arrived in Bodrum late in the day due to some uninformed choices on my part, chiefly due to seasonal closures (there's always an excuse from this quarter!), and I was very happy for a moment to discover that my entry into Bodrum castle was waived on account of my student status! I saved about $9; however I was soon to find out that more than ...

Bathing in Bodrum

... and The Washer takes a long filmy piece of gauze from a bucket of soapy water. It's a magic pillow case, that suddenly balloons with air, and as The Washer stretches it over the body before her, clouds of foam are squeezed onto flesh. After a thorough washing with this olive oil soap ( that smells like the leaves of a lemon tree ) the woman is rinsed again, and she is suddenly gone. The Washer is looking at me, hands on her plump hips. It's Showtime! I lay face down on the hot marble ...
