    ... my ankle, wrist and derriare before I could get in the van. As a result the next day was declared a washing day. It needed doing because my keks were chasing my socks around the van and threatening them.
    As a result I have lovely clean clothes but didn't get another paddle. There will be other opportunities I'm sure.
    Having time to contemplate I realised I've been in France for nearly 2 weeks and really should crack on, so I trundled steadily ...

    So - after I dried out and thawed from the ride into La Rochelle, the next day I headed South to Royan and decided to catch the ferry across the Gironde. It's Europe's largest estuary and yep it's massive! The other side is completely different, it's the Medoc wine growing area and so lovely I stayed until yesterday, so Spain's a while ...

    ... tourists. We are in an area where the French holiday after the main season and all the other terrorists have gone home. Very little English spoken but you can get by.

    There are marinas and boats everywhere. So much for the downturn in the French economy. Not many are for sale. The acrachon marina holds about 1500 boats and none of them cheap.

    ... for me to take out my belly bar - and I did. However, after an hour, I started panicking because I could not get it back in. Eventually I got it back in and then we headed back to the campervan to go back to the campsite. On the way home, we stopped at a fresh fruit stall and got some veg for tea. Dad also got a fish.
