We left Faro in the fog, with the rain starting to fall. It was not a promising start, but we didn't have too far to go to Ria Guardiana, which forms the border between Portugal and Spain. The rain cleared up before long, as it happened, and by the time we reached Vila Real, on the Portuguese side, the sun was out and it was another glorious day.

We started the day with a visit to a cork factory, which was most interesting! Especially the huge six-foot high piles of bark in the parking lot that had been harvested from the cork oak trees in the region.
