My last two days in Tenerife

A travel blog entry by btfreder on Jun 21, 2014

This is it. I'm sitting in my residencia now on the final night of my time here in Tenerife. I cannot believe I've been here for five weeks and that I won't be going to the hospital on Monday...it feels like I've started a new life here and now I'm throwing away something I got so used to! Either way, I'm excited for what the rest of my summer, year and life hold, so though I'm sad to leave, I'm also happy to go.

These last two days have been absolutely amazing! It was ...

... before. We arrived at the unit at about 8:15 as we always do, and we spent about 45 minutes in the morning meeting where all the doctors gather together to discuss various patients and particularly challenging cases. To be honest, I'm sure what they were saying was very interesting, but I was so tired from waking up so early that I could not understand a single word of what any of those doctors was saying, and I quickly found my head bobbing as I struggled ...

      End of week 4

As my final weekend here begins to come to an end, I'm looking back on all my time here, and I can honestly say that though it's been a struggle, and though I've had more trouble than I thought I would, I will always remember this trip as being the best opportunity I could take advantage of this summer. It's been such a blast, and I look forward to my final week ahead in Gynecology. Hopefully my sun burns don't peel too much and I can come home with a nice tan!

      Week3---WEEKEND---week4

... soup, fried cheese with honey and basil sauces, huge plates of chicken and ribs, and then finished the whole thing off with some cake. The people around me were mostly vegetarians, so I got to eat a lot of ribs and chicken--practically all of it actually--so by the time we got to the bus I was so full I felt like I was going to throw up. It was so worth it though.

It was so cool to meet our new fellows, and I loved going to the beach and seeing the mountains, so I had ...

... disconcerted throughout the entire consult, but I never saw a woman look more worried than when she heard Paco say, "This is an English woman with dementia." Her face contorted, she made a little noise, and Paco asked her if she was okay. After a quick pause, and a glance at me and the other residents in the room, she said very proudly and in an offended tone, "I'm Scottish!" I laughed for five minutes straight, and my day was made.
