... day. The road through Switzerland was excellent even though the grade was as much as 19% at times. However as soon as we passed the border into Italy the road quality noticeably deteriorated to one and a half lane rough roads with no line markings, but at least there were guard rails. We strangely passed back into Switzerland again this time exhibiting a well maintained yet very narrow winding road with a deep valley ravine through to Locarno. We then entered ...

... still not a cloud to be seen. Did have a minute to do a quick spot of shopping ...**** shops shut 12-2 ..great so grab this amazing kaftan I needed it but couldn't resist ...never seen one like it. Switzerland the home of army knives, cuckoo clocks, watches, chocolate , Swiss alps, giant pretzels, and all those weird sausages !! Hehe ... Time for a peppermint tea and on my next leg of my train adventure ...

its only when one looks carefully can you see tiny dots op people in the ice
encrusted walls of this mighty high mountain. Looking up at the peak there was
two tiny black dots in the snow which we all thought were rocks showing out.
Only when we saw them move did we realise they were tiny people. This of course
made us realise just how massive this peak really was.

... When we said no, he asked where we were going. When we told him " Karlsruhe", he said "Fine, fine". We made a note to check more into this later. By 9:30, we made it to our first transfer at Karlsruhe and went to Platform 2 to await the arrival of the ICE 275 train to Interlaken Ost. Another nice thing about the train stations is the diagram of the arriving train (not all trains) displayed on the platform LED screen. Today's journey has taken us to a tiny town about 4000 meters into the Swiss alps. The only way to reach this town is via a cable car, or a 40 minute hike through the mountains. There are no roads and no cars! As soon as we arrived, we were immediately struck by how quiet the area was. The only sounds were various bird calls and distant crashing water falls. The occasional sheep's bleat or cow's moo can be heard. No traffic, no city noise, hardly ...
