Day one of our travels was actually planned to be day of relaxing travel since our fight was not leaving Fort Lauderdale until close to midnight. We planned an early morning bus ride to Miami, and hopefully some fun times in South Beach. We had ourselves plenty of time, or so we thought, for Bill to get us to the terminal in Tampa. Stuck in traffic for an hour on the bridge was not factored into the plans. As our arrival time quickly approached, we resorted to the all knowing Google ...

Standout buildings were the Congress Hotel, the Post Office, with its enormous domed room of PO boxes, and the interior of one of the hotels, with red arrows embedded in the terrazzo floors to lead people to the illegal gambling dens. ... Owen ended up doing all of the paddling. We didn't want to aggravate it, given she has to swim a mile on Sunday. Nonetheless, the scenery was beautiful. The water was calm and lake-like (mostly). Luscious greenery lined Biscayne Bay. It was difficult to fathom we were in big-city Miami. After the one-hour kayak adventure, Owen and Jordan did some S.U.P. (stand up paddling). We had to scurry on back to our hotel because we had plans that ...

... of people getting on the bus, just when you thought the bus was full, they would squeeze another half a dozen people on, by the time we got over the river and into Miami the bus was packed. We got off outside the arena with a few other Heat fans and headed over to the arena after a short and unsuccessful look around the area for dinner. We waited for probably 15 minutes outside with 1000s of other fans until the doors opened then we headed into the arena. On the ...
