We decided to sign up to 'Pam's Tours' today and drive further north up to Kaliakra and then back via Queen Maria's Palace at Balchik. This being Bulgaria, we didn't really know what to expect, but knowing we could blame Pam if it all went wrong was a comfort!

The peace and calm was marvellous, but Dave still managed to have a minor but ironic accident. In the main part of the site there is a stone circle which is supposed to bring people luck; Dave went in and then the moment he stepped out of it again, he stepped on something sharp - ...

... my flat. We packed rucksacks, showered, rested and nipped out to buy some drinks and snacks for our next leg of the journey.

Veliko Tarnovo is almost in the exact centre between Sofia and Varna, so our journey to Varna was also about three and a half hours. The first half of the journey was very picturesque, full of streams, rivers and forested hills and mountains; the second half was pleasant ...
