... to not bribe the police as one may in Mexico. This would result in great offence and hence a great offence. It is a pity that humans haven’t harnessed the bird as they have they beast, because 60% of Spain’s racing pigeons call Gran Canaria home, many of the enthusiastic fanciers use the island for international conventions. If they could fly me around after sampling the home-grown rum, I’d have my citizenship application filled out pronto.

Our day begins early as we trek our luggage down to Hotel Reina Isabelle to meet our guides. It is easy to spot our group wearing lots of biking gear. We have 21 bikers mostly from the east coast. This includes three families, two single women and four couples. We have a 50 minute bus trip to the south of the island to begin our ride. We arrive in Tejada for a lunch at a quant pub.
