Azure Blue on the Cyclades

... next flight to Santorini wasn't until 5.30am, so 4 hours of trying to sleep on airport floors with not an awful lot of luck! Bleary eyed managed to catch the flight off to Santorini and landed at 6.15am. The lovely Stelios was there waiting for us to take us back to his place!

Obviously we hadn't booked any accomodation from 6am and the place was full so our room wasn't going to be ready until about 12pm later that day. Luckily though Stelios has a little room in the ...

Well, a very enjoyable last night in Santorini. had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the sunset strip. Pity it wasn't the clearest of nights but still spectacular.
Dinner consisted of grilled pork with pureed red pepper and potatoes with cheese and Souvlaki Lamb with baked potato.
A 5.00 am start got us on to the flight to Athens then Rome.

Greek Islands

... the backpacker lifestyle for just a week and we had some really great sleeps! We played bingo (we both only needed one number on one game- very tense), hung out by the pool, went in the hot tub after dinner, had numerous delicious drinks and enjoyed the nightly entertainment. The Love and Marriage gameshow was hilarious. When the host asked a male contestant what part of his wife he would make bigger he said "her brain" and then quickly changed his answer. We ...

To Santorini via Napoli

... we had bought a lovely ring the year before. After speaking with them about sizing options, it was decided we could have it adjusted back home cheaply, and without casuing any damage to the ring itself.

We then went thru the small but fascinating Santorini Museum, where entry just happened to be free for a few days! We were not allowed to pose in front of the exhibits but did take many non-flash photos of the various stoneware ...

Island Life

... a greek salad, greek coffee because I don't know what it is, and some sea food. Haven't had that yet. I've had souvlaki twice and they serve it with chips. So simple too. Just a bit of salt and oregano, and a lemon on the side. Reminds me of Portugal where they don't go over the top with different flavours, and it's amazing how far half a lemon will go. Mmmmm. Went into a shop today that sold tons of goodies like spices, traditional ...

SANTORINI - The Dream Island

... airport for quite cheap I can admit….70 euros for 3 days! A brand new one, and we were told that we were the 2nd to hire it. It smelled new too!

We opened the map and were directed to Oia where we had made reservations through Easyjet. The hotel called "The Sunset Hotel" and we had a warm welcome by the director of the resort. Offered a cold bottle of water for a welcome, and we were anxiously ...

Last Island, Santorini

Santorini is the last island that we visited. We stayed there for 3 nights as it was the largest & the island with most "sights" to see. The whole island (& the smaller 1's around it) were formed by a volcano. We did the tourist thing & took a tour boat out to ...

A Blustery Island Arrival

... three of us were sharing. We unpacked and did some more talking, and after a few minutes we heard a giant gust of wind and a massive crash. A second later the gal from the front desk walked in looking very windblown. She had managed to save our food, but the bread and condiments that had been whisked off the tray and down the cliffs. It gave me a new appreciation for the island's weather. Let's just say I never strayed to close to the edges of the caldera.

A trip to Greece

... area. Buildings and homes in the distance were fine. So we dined by candle light. Our food selection was limited to foods prepared via gas. We started with an assorted cheese plate and pickled octopus, followed by fried mullet and fried shark. All was delicious, including the shark. We had a bottle of Paros wine (a little pricy), which was very good. $32. Kutsuras, Naoussa On the waterfront We were hungry after driving around the ...
