The airport...and getting to Athens...

... bathroom, kitchen, and living room! Once we had cleaned up etc. we went and had some lunch and I had an amazing greek salad...followed by a little gelato (which is popular in Greece as well as in Italy!) We then met up with everyone else and did a little walking around the city and saw a few ruins sites. That night we hung out at our hostel and met some really cool people, in fact two of the guys came with us the following day to Aegina Island!

In Athens, but tired again!

As predicted, this morning was rainy and hazy, but I headed for Meteora nonetheless. The bus came at 8:20 am, so I had a very early start, and headed to the farthest monastery at the top of Meteora. The monasteries were all incredible...you can see how monks could, and still do, live there. So simple, with beautiful churches - all the walls are completely covered in colourful ...

Feast!

... into her armpits. Wedding Belle talked about finally finding balance between her course load here in Greece and going out to enjoy the culture. And she told me about the thrilling moment when she realized that her little brother, whom she had helped to raise, had grown from an infant into a little boy who could articulate his own personality. The students departed with nice clean clothes and I went to bed with a nice full belly.

4 Acts of Random Stupidity (A.R.S)

... Down a few streets, and alleys, every now and again I can see it getting closer, but in reality I'm already lost. I did notice some tourists walking up a street, so I discreetly follow them and eventually more tourists join us, and yep they are all heading to the Acropolis too. Luck is on my side, but it's already an hour later than I expected and getting hotter. The first thing you notice about the Acropolis, is that it's up high and is an impressive sight. Second, there is a lot of ...

... things to come. It is the quintessential Greek Island with charming little white-washed villages carved into vertiginous cliffs, blue-domed churches, and spectacular views towards the caldera of this gorgeous volcanic island. The place with something for everyone be it shopping, water sports, tours to the caldera, romantic dinners, suntanning, or my favourite, cruising around on an ATV with the sun on your back and the wind on your face. A couple of days of sun ...

Alone... but not really

... the turks. It doesnt make for the best preserved sites, but for the amount of foregin occupation they have done a very nice job preserving. Just the feeling I get when i think of all of the history here. The birthplace of democracy and rational thinking and really the most advanced civilization in the world of its time. We peered into Athens history from the bronze age all the way through the Byzantium period. These guys had a thing for Athena Nike, the ...

YAY!!!

... so while I'm trying to prop my ankle up to keep it from swelling, I have these security guards yelling at me to sit up and get my BARE FOOT off of a potentially old and historical rock. Whatever lady, you try doing this in the mid-day heat and hobble around. But I think it'll be okay. Just a bit of a damper. But HEY! Nothing a lunch of gyros pita take-away and Spinach/Feta (Spinnakipoli or something like that?) pies can't fix! MMMMMM....

Old Stuff Part II

... otherwise, our journey would have included a 3-hour train to a 15-hour ferry followed by another 3-4 hour train- no thanks! Surprisingly, we didn't experience the new wave of "security" we were warned about and successfully smuggled shampoo onboard! As for the flight, Aegean airlines rocks. We boarded on-time (all at one time versus by zones or rows, much quicker), were served a full meal with coffee and tea (offered at least twice between take off and landing), and landed ...
