... metro system so via this way we still could reach the airport in time for our flight to Dubai.
At the airport we got a newspaper and saw the terrible news of Nepal. Pictures of places we just had visited, stories about places we have slept. and made nice pictures of. The children under an umbrella in Gumda, the little girl who liked to do the puzzles with us, the ladies I danced with, the little boys with the Rubiks ...
... insisted we went with Arabian Adventures, one of the better companies, and it paid off. We had an amazing time. First of all they pick you up from the door and drive you to a car park in the middle of nowhere, where you congregate with 36 other Toyota Land Cruisers and the drivers all get out and deflate all the tyres to 16 (either psi or kpa's), anyway quite low to get more traction when driving on sand. Then it was off into the desert in one massive convoy, dune bashing ...
... he get lost in a movie, so I'm sure the flight seemed even longer for him. We started to wonder if we'd lost a suitcase (and wouldn't you know it, it was the one with all our clothes in, not the "extra" one with stuff for Emma - although I'm sure she would think that was good!), but it eventually turned up. ... but finding actual Dubai culture is tough. One of the most common questions asked at any bar is "How long have you been here" and "How long will you be here"? After 2 weeks, I still felt relatively new answering those questions but took pride in saying I'd be here a year. After 8 weeks, I laugh at my initial unease as I routinely meet people who have been (and will be) here for less time than I have.
... and THEIR Mojitos were something else! And some Japanese cocktail, looked like tomato juice, tasted like heaven!
A table booked at Cavalli Club, and whilst we'd loved to have gone I really didn't want to be feeling terrible the next day (full day sailing). The club was great, and I'll have to perhaps put it on my bucket list to one day go back there and order one of their special Magnums of Champagne that come with Fireworks and a staggering $150,000 (Australian Dollar!) price ...
