... also about the building itself. We were taken behind the scenes to see areas of the Palais that a general walk through doesn't access. The Palais is huge and impersonal. The rooms are not scaled for warmth and coziness. Like Hailes Abbey only about twenty priestly types lived there although there were many support staff who worked there during the day. We learned all sorts of interesting stuff like the fact that one of the King Louis ...

... Very old, very narrow, and very stone. Then to Avignon to stay right in the centre of this walled-city. Hotel de L'Horloge overlooking the main square - had to park 700 metres away and 'drag' though. ... pulled ahead. I made it to the top but the last 15-20 minutes were not fun. I was slower than last time: Two hours, eight minutes today v. 2 hours, 1 minute in 2012 from Malaucène.

On the up-side, maybe, is that I had my picture taken by four photographers. Hopefully one of them got a good enough shot for me to purchase later, but I was pretty wrecked by the time I reached them plus my bike is still more than a bit dirty from riding ...

... hit the ground, but it was definitely snowing. Last night they had forecast about 270 mm of snow in the mountains and we could see that fresh snow had fallen in the valleys wherever we drove today.

We've travelled from the Hautes Alpes region to the Provence region where we are spending the night.

The Hautes Alpes region is stunning with beautiful lakes such as Lac de Seree Poncon which goes on for kms, as well as rivers where the water ...
