... parts of the city were very drab, dirty and smelly. We didn’t see everything - we would have liked to take one of the boat trips to visit Chateau D’If (a 16th century fortress and later a prison which was the setting for Dumas’ Count of Mount Christo) or the Calanques (deep narrow inlets in the rocky cliffs along the coast) but the seas were rough and some days the trips were cancelled. Jane opened the shutter and a clear blue sky emerged - saved! As we were up before Baguette-Man arrived we had early breakfast and were at the beach early. Mr and Mrs Cosmetic already had their plot staked out but obviously were nowhere to be seen. I thought only the Germans did that.... It soon got packed with us English packed ...

Jane says the music stopped before 11 pm and I have to say it is quiet here after that. Les Lavandes had been close to a big road with motorbikes soaring past and, as we had the flat right next to the main entrance people would wake us up drunkenly banging the door. None of that here. I got my cuddle, Bryan delivered the baguette and pain au chocolate, we had a huge mug of coffee - clearly the holidays have begun. Tradition has it we go to the ...
