... money for lunch.
After lunch we window shopped and bought souvenirs. I also bought more coke and some pretzels to take back to the ship. Then we went to the Glass Museum which contains tens of thousands of glassware items from the 17th century on. A short walk took us to where the buses were to take us back to the ship. It was another pleasant drive, this time on the Autobahn. We got on the ship in Deggendorf where Muriel was waiting by the door.
... r diesen Flug super Plätze ausgesucht, ganz hinten.
... which was on the other side of the river and then came back over a bridge further down the line back into Germany. The scenery was something else and so peaceful. When we got back into Germany there was a picnic area and a long table all set up with meat, pretzels, gherkins and drinks for everybody. Lois got off her bike but her legs were like jelly so landed on her knees poor thing but all I could do was laugh. This was not a time for praying. We ...
Passau, Bavaria, Germany aliceandmac... their services towards cyclist's (hot showers, bike garages etc). Today these are open for the numerous leisure cyclists who go out for the day near towns. There are also bike/foot ferries operating across the danube to facilitate out on one side and back on the other. This is all new since the 1980's and is the result of a government initiative apparently. They have certainly spent a lot on signs and paths but these now see a lot of traffic. There is also noticeably more commercial ...

Passau, Bavaria, Germany alburybikers... castles palaces, evidence of the power of the bishops. The city is dominated by the Hohensalzburg fortress high above, and many structures are actually built into the cliffs below. Mozart was born in this city 1756, and the buildings record this. We went through the Mirabell Gardens, very pretty, this is where the fountain from the film is. You know Doh Ray Me ...
Passau, Bavaria, Germany shell51... up nicely for the last bit coming into Passau (which is another lovely medieval town). Staying in a 16 century building which has huge thick walls and is also freezing cold so I have gone for a walk and turned heating on full. Vey cheap place, all in for the reasonable sum of 35E including breakfast. Oh, in addition to inumerable rocky gorges enticing ruined castles and dull looking churches, I passed a great place called ...
Toll wars!
Passau, Germany caroruben... The trip allowed us to interact with the locals because most of the hotels were bed & breakfasts so we got to talk to the owners even at some points they only spoke German, we made do by pointing to the wall of mounted animal heads to tell us what we were eating. It was a great experience and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting an adventure off the beaten path.
