I read several articles about hiking the Old Tokaido trail. However, there was some variability with the information. One Japan lesson I’ve learned is since we cannot often read the best source of information we have to approach most outings with a sense of adventure and flexibility. ... OMG craziness...the pedestrian crossing is famous for the number of people who cross each time. It is known as the Shibyu Scramble. It is a spectacle with lots of photographers trying to catch that special shot of the action. The whole place is neon, techno, noise, consumerism. And the Japanese have gone mad for Halloween, as it gives them an excuse to dress up! It is a city in itself although part of the wider Toyko City.

... so you were expected to do all of your washing in the onsen. After a long day on your feet it was very nice to relax and cook yourself in the hot water... Our room also had a traditional $500 toilet seat, this one heated and offering you even more services once you finished your business! Tomorrow we have a traditional Japanese breakfast at the ryokan which again is included in our stay. From there it is off to Kyoto which is apparently much more traditional than modern ...
