Just about 3 hours outside of Tokyo, we found our idyllic escape. The guidebook description alone was mouth-watering.

Hakone is a region popular among Tokyites (is this a word? If not, it should be) looking to escape the rat race for a day or more. Well up into the mountains, it boasts clean crisp air, lush forests, and a gorgeous alpine lake. Just what we were looking for.

Today started with a traditional Japanese breakfast which was not at all to my taste. Breakfast included -

Boarded a pirate ship that went across Lake Ashi.
    Took 2 ropeways
    Boarded ...

We were served a katsekai dinner in our room which consisted of about ten courses. The highlight was when Jona spilled his beer over our entire table, and once we got that cleaned up I started having gag reflexes over some very chewy sashimi. We agreed not to let our server know what had ...

    True story.

I was originally planning on limiting my vacation to Tokyo/Kyoto area, but hearing/reading a lot about Hakone convinced me to add it in at the last minute.

I'm here for 2 nights, but unfortunately I'm already regretting this - I wish I could stay here for a few weeks instead.

It would make for a very different kind of vacation, and one that I had not really considered. I wanted to come to Japan ...
