... then we rushed the last 3/4 in about 5 minutes! We finally got to Ito and collected our car for three days. This region doesn't feature in the Lonely Planet but is a popular tourist spot for Japanese. We head south down the coast road and there are some lovely views. The countryside is rugged with little tunnels through the hills, vaguely reminiscent of the drive between the south of France and Italy with pretty towns built into the hillside. ... upsetting that the tour company continued with a tour to see a mountain that they knew would not be visible without notifying passengers first. It was very upsetting when we were not able to get the bullet train tickets that we had already paid for and then had to pay out of pocket to get back home.

On the plus side, we got to ride multiple parts of the extensive Tokyo transportation system and saw beautiful Japanese houses and gardens in the countryside.

... and venturing out in Japan. Since Mike & I have no problem with this, we viewed the day as a date with free child care. A 20 minute train trip brought us to Kamakura, where the first Shogun established a capital in 1185. A tour guide brought us to the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine sharing elements of Shinto and Samaruai culture. She led us in the ritual of purifying ourselves before entering the shrine by cleansing our hands and mouth. At ...
