... and walk almost everywhere in town. Kaye brought her suitcase with her as she was leaving on the Tuesday and with the car being out of action we thought it would be safer for her to be in town in order to catch the train. We had a lovely lunch at Katy and John’s. Happily I got the car fixed on Monday so I was able to go back and have dinner with them on Monday night.

    ... Everyone walked away happy.

We then caught the ferry that we thought was going to Managgio which is on the opposite side of the lake, but it went back to Bellagio so it was an opportunity for me to change out of my wet shirt and get a jacket, of course this was also the signal required for the rain to stop and the sun to come out. Mennagio was another small quiet village with a restaurant and a gellato shop on each corner and where the Tourist Information ...

It's nice to stay somewhere that’s real. Varenna is real.

We chose this place more or less by accident. ... the guide provides commentary in Italian for 10 minutes then the condensed English version for 5 minutes. It was very enjoyable none the less. My compensation was having a couple of cold beers sitting out on the balcony watching the world go by and contemplating where we would eat tonight. My feet were saying, why not try the restaurant in the hotel and so we did, not the greatest meal in the world but the view and the atmosphere was unbeatable.

... to show their fall colors.

Bellagio's steep hills were crowded with many shops, art studios, outlets and restaurants. We were cold from exploring all morning in the rain, so found a nice cafe inside to eat warm soup and pasta. On ferry back to Varenna we again ran into the American couple who sat near us at dinner last night - wonder if we will see them again tomorrow.
