Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... This is a place that could well be lost in time (apart from the touristy aspects) somewhere to sit and try to take in the real meaning of being - just majestic. Carafe of the local vino which was actually good along with a big feed of local caught seafood in tomato risotto - really good home style food in a magic setting. In shorts, ss shirt and thongs for first time in the evening of the trip so far. Then bed to dream more adventures to beat today's activities. Ciao ...

... Veneto. It was a bit of a ghost town but only a short train ride away from Venice. We spent one full day in Venice getting lost in the crazy dead ends streets and crossing the canals in the pouring rain. It is certainly a place like no other. It was very busy in the tiny touristy streets, then deserted in other streets. Some sort of charity boat race/ride was on during the day which was very entertaining to see the locals banging pots and pans out their windows ...
