... the temple we found the more direct route to the station, which didn't involve any hills at all - doh! We arrived back in Ueno just as some really dark clouds began to gather and shortly after getting back to the hotel, there was a huge thunder storm.

The rest of the afternoon and evening were spent doing laundry and blogging - I didn't take any photos!

Weather permitting, we're off to Nikko tomorrow to see the Tokugawa shrine.

... blossom season and here it was in front of us. What a wonderful, unforgettable moment! We rushed to the trees with our cameras at the ready and didn’t leave for quite a while; there was something so magical, so ethereal, about standing in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities and finding yourself surrounded by a huge cloud of pink and white flowers; everyone quietly taking photos and leaning forward to smell the blossom. I hung out in my room for a little while to make sure I missed rush hour, ...

... one is to keep their undergarments under this yukata or not. In my mind a hot spring is a place you go to, undress, get into some hot water and you're done. So to me it doesn't make sense to be wearing anything underneath. Luckily not too far from me is a white guy also changing so after asking him if he speaks english, I get his confirmation that one DOES keep their undergarments under the yukata. He was even kind enough to give me a map of the complex ...

    ... on to find lunch.

Another thing that made me uncomfortable was the fascination with maids. In Akihabara, there were girls with pink hair dressed up in housemaid costumes that would advertise their restaurants. I felt as if I had seen enough. 14 years ago, my Pokémon-obsessed self would have wanted to stay here forever and try on 5 different Sailor Moon outfits. I am barely 22 and already felt a sensory overload. I stopped at a McDonald's for a small Diet Coke (which ...
