... while the chains were fixes, gears adjusted, seats tightened etc etc. Today's ride took us to Chambord Chateaux and then back to Blois. We didn't really think about photo opportunities during the day as we were focused on riding in a group, staying safe on the roads and getting used to the bikes. This beautiful castle built on the River Cher was home to five different ladies between 1499-1836; Diane De Poitiers, Catherine de Medici, Louise of Lorraine, Louise Dupin and Marguerite Pelouze. During the First World War, it served as a hospital. Although the crowds were large, we enjoyed seeing this charming and beautifully restored residence. ... tiny villages, past a few vineyards a couple of chateau's and lots of sweet corn and sunflower fields. The sun was shining and the birds were singing, it was idilic, fields of strawberries grew and the smell was mouth watering. ... lunch we visited the museum of etangs and, whilst we had a very enthusiastic guide who took the group to the lake and back inside explained all the wildlife and history, it was all in fast-spoken French so hard to catch even the odd word or phrase and we subtly slipped sway from the tour after 40 mins or so.
A final swim in the pool and re-match of volleyball (joined by a rust-coloured toad who fancied a dip) before packing and eating up the fridge again!
