Chateau de Chenonceau

This beautiful castle built on the River Cher was home to five different ladies between 1499-1836; Diane De Poitiers, Catherine de Medici, Louise of Lorraine, Louise Dupin and Marguerite Pelouze. During the First World War, it served as a hospital. Although the crowds were large, we enjoyed seeing this charming and beautifully restored residence. Some salad and greasy duck later we were on the road headed back to Paris. The peripherique was clogged with traffic and we had to gas the car up before returning. Finding gas was stressful since our freemium offline navigation app Sygic (wonderful app, impractical approach to pricing) ...

More Chateaux

Thankfully this morning started off a bit cooler, and we even had a bit of drizzle to start with. Charlie and I had not yet had our fill of chateaux, so we went off to the supremely graceful Chateau de Cheverny, thought by many to be the most perfectly proportioned chateau of all. Constructed between 1625-34, and built from gleaming stone from nearby quarries, it is one of the few chateaux whose original architecture has survived the centuries practically unchanged. The interior ...
