... climb to get some of the most amazing views of the city below. Also it is a nice place to escape from the crowds below.
It was here that the Arabs built there town until the Norman conquest in 1063, forced the locals down from the mountain to the port below.

As our day was winding down to its end we noticed that the Gelati Festival was just setting up. *******s!

Tomorrow our Sicilian adventure continues as we head to Catania.

... TV, in order to stay out of the sun during the peak burning hours, and at 3:30 we walked across the street and went for a swim in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was so refreshing! Part of the beach was rocky, but the rocks were all perfectly flat skipping rocks. However, there wasn't a speck of shade on the beach so we went back to the hotel pool and spent the next couple of hours relaxing on lounge chairs, taking a dip when we got hot, and I read for awhile. I'm ...

... to tell my favorite thing today--we went to a fruit farm and picked apricots, plums, nectarines, apples off the trees. I can't begin to tell you how many apricots your leaders ate today because then they brought bowls of them for dessert at our lunch we had there. Here's hoping that our hotel has Internet and I can get some pictures on the web for you to see the beauty of this place. Arriverderci! LDills

Puking at the bungalow

Okay, okay, enough ragging on poor old Sicilia. Granted, the island has been beautiful. Challenging, not only physically but gastronomically. I've suffered 3 major bouts of food poisoning, and Ainaz has had just one, but threw up as many times as my 3 episodes combined. We've sworn off meat, any water that doesn't come from a grocery store shelf, and pretty much anything else that doesn't unwrap or peel. Personally, I'm loving the cereal. The selection leaves some to be ...

I randomly looked this city up after seeing a postcard picture in town and decided I had tos ee this. The town has a long history. ... rocks. It was so beautiful and tranquil and i just wanted to lay there for the whole day, but seeing as we had so much to take in, we couldnt hang around for too long. We stopped off for something to eat at one of the restaurants along the beach and had a lovely pizza with plum tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and freshly shaved parmesan - YUM! We made our way through the cobbled streets which ...

... br>I scoot down there in the rain and the waiter wonders who this is squelching through the door in sopping wet clothes and a bright orange backpack and speaks to me in English but relaxes when I respond in Sicilian and it's after 3pm but he checks with the kitchen and they can fix me up something. I have pasta con ricci (sea urchin sauce), and a mixed grill of seafood and a half litre jug of white wine. After lunch the rain intensifies substantially and I wonder what to do. Here I am ...

The path from San Francisco to Marsala

Being in Sicily On October 30 I headed to Atlanta, then to Rome, then to Reggio di Calabria in southern Italy. When all was said and done it was two days of traveling. I met up with my friends on the boat after getting ripped off by a taxi driver, had a bite to eat, then fell asleep. The next day we set sail early in the morning through the Straits of Messina and up along the northern coast of Sicily. For the first two days I couldn't ...

Cefalu, Sicily: making friends

Day 137 - 138, 21st - 22nd October 2006, Cefalu, Sicily: making friends through vehicular misfortune On our way to Cefalu we passed through some more amazing mountainous scenery and finally hit the north coast of Sicily some time in the afternoon. On checking in we encountered the resident crazy, Guiseppe, but more about him later. We had some lunch and a siesta and then headed into Cefalu village for a wander and some ...

We saw them later on a road and then hopping over the tumbled down walls of former houses. As we slowly walked the 2 kilometers back to the main gate of the park area where our car was parked, one of the guardians drove by and offered us a ride back to the gate. OK, he wanted to get us out so he could close and go home, but in high ...
