Well, we are now a complete quartet... which is very appropos as we are now exploring the city of Vienna (filled with music and I imagine many musical quartets abound!). Bill and Lindsay arrive yesterday and their plane was an hour early (almost unheard of!!) and so my carefully timed arrival to greet them was thwarted!! Oh well they had yet another chance to sit and read their books! I wisked them away on the CAT (Vienna's great express train to and from the airport - Calgary could take less...
Vienna, Austria cmyusep I feel almost guilty to admit it but! - as rich in history and tradition as Vienna is, as pretty and clean as it is - it didn't touch me...I mentioned before that to me cities are like people - some you like instantly...others take time to grow on you...there are cities you dislike...there are cities you almost lust for...and there are cities that you might admire with your mind while your heart somehow remains largely indifferent...
just like with people - it's a mystery what drives thi...

... beer for 52
euro cents each which is dirt cheap. I'm planning on bringing a couple
to Italy to drink there.
It was now time for dinner. I met up with Polo from the USA and we
went just down the street to a little restaurant that was suppose to
be very good. We both ordered beef goulash with a bread dumpling. When
we got the food it looked, smelled and tasted delicious. After dinner
we went back to the hostel to check ...
... of cereal. It was some type of weirdo-vegan soy substitute. I am currently reading a book that graphically describes what is actually in American meat, and how cattle and other animals are abused to obtain said meat, and even after reading it, though I can understand the dubiously noble intentions behind vegetarianism, I have no idea how soy milk is supposed to decrease animal suffering. It increased my suffering and that was all that mattered. But I ...
Vienna, Vienna, Austria jeastty... so I don't know what the question could have been, I said I don't understand and walked off, except he followed me and started asking where I was from and so said, I have to go now and walked more quickly off with some random tourists). Anyway, with all that I gave up, that was it, I just wanted to chill out on the internet, watching TV doing whatever at the hostel, so that's what I did for the rest of the day. And it was all ...
Vienna, Austria fionapurcellHuzzah! I am in Vienna and not dead. This in itself is an achievement. However I am running out of battery, which is not so much of an achievement and as my hostel is spread over 3 houses and my adaptor is across the road in a locker, I will be keeping this brief. (By my standards!!) After the most eventful airport trip I've had in a while (charged for overweight baggage, frisked, AND had my handluggage searched, before ryanair changed ...
Vienna, Vienna, Austria eskimosarah... The famous Hapsburg crown was perhaps the most stunning item of the collection although there were other crowns, scepters and swords that would have been the main attraction at just about any other exhibition. After the Treasury it was on to the large building known as the Neue Hofburg that houses the collection of Arms and Armor, the musical instrument collection, the Ephesus Museum and the Ethnography Museum. The Arms and ...

Vienna, Florence, Austria romanuck_... where we got happily lost for three hours in the sun and bartered for several purchases. We then headed towards the city on our way to Mozarthaus. However, what had started as a great morning, had a slight drop off around lunch time when Kate lost her favourite cardi somewhere along the way in Karlzplatz. A brief search and she had to accept that it was gone. Oh well more room in the bag for new stuff! Once in the city, Kellie realized she was missing a bag ...
Vienna, Austria sharm... a bit of a talk, we got to try full shots of all these different flavours, and try them we did. Heaps better than what we get at home, and the one with 23 karat gold leaf in it was particularly impressive. I spent the night and dinner in tonight: had salad, cheese and crackers, and my 85 cent 500ml can of Stiegl. Lol, and a super long hot bath. Off to Hungary tomorrow, piccies to come!
