Now we are a quartet in Vienna!

Well, we are now a complete quartet... which is very appropos as we are now exploring the city of Vienna (filled with music and I imagine many musical quartets abound!). Bill and Lindsay arrive yesterday and their plane was an hour early (almost unheard of!!) and so my carefully timed arrival to greet them was thwarted!! Oh well they had yet another chance to sit and read their books! I wisked them away on the CAT (Vienna's great express train to and from the airport - Calgary could take less...

Vienna - Part 2

I feel almost guilty to admit it but! -  as rich in history and tradition as Vienna is, as pretty and clean as it is  - it didn't touch me...I mentioned before that to me cities are like people - some you like instantly...others take time to grow on you...there are cities you dislike...there are cities you almost lust for...and there are cities that you might admire with your mind while your heart somehow remains largely indifferent...
just like with people - it's a mystery what drives thi...

LAUNDRY DAYS

August 8, Saturday<br><br>When we went to pay Len mentioned about being crowded and the people beginning their dinner when we were going to bed. He also mentioned to her that they want to charge us (as small as we are) the motor home rate and yet tell us we can't park in a large site because it is for the large motor homes. She then told Len to be quiet! And not in a nice tone of voice. She gave him 2 Euros back and said good-bye go!<br><br ...

Vienna is cold and rainy and beautiful

... the person staying at a friends house... my SIM card was out of money). Since it was so much nicer out (70s and sunny!) I visited the Schönbrunn Palace in the morning... which was pretty awesome as you can see by the pics. Around 1, I started to head back to Frankfurt... but there was a lot of waiting around for the trains (first in Wien, then in Passau)... which weren't express either...so I didn't get back to Frankfurt until around midnight.<br>

Day 46: Last Blog Entry, Back in Austria

... 2. The hike on the Great Wall, 10km from Jinshanling to Simatai, passing some 30+ towers, seeing rebuilt parts, and broken ones, enjoying great views and sceneries. It is a "great" wall, indeed. 1. Chinese people, their openness and curiousity, and the way how they live and their attitude. Even though the big cities are crowded, taking rides on public transport can become uncomfortable, and streets can be chaotic ...

Changing Plans

... on exhibit. Disappointing because I paid extra to be able to shoot photos and video but the lighting was so dim nothing really came out (and they don't allow flash). I also went to the cathedral museum which had an interesting display on "Faith and Football (Soccer)". The theme tied in with the Euro2008 Final that was on Sunday, 29 June. Of course while getting from one place to another I did lots of walking and sightseeing along the way. In general, though, I avoided the ...

Berlin-VIenna

... the gate I had used when coming in, so just got in to the tram which claimed to be going towards the inner city, and got down on the nearest subway station. That was it for me, my feet were sore, my back was sore, and I was hungry. I headed down to base camp to prepare for the following expedition of the city. Among the interesting things I had seen was an exhibition about Maximlian of Habsburg in the mint of Vienna, which will be talked about on a different chapter.

Not again!!!!!

... had time to do was walk to the Obelisk Fountain. We did hear an orchestra practicing behind the palace. We were glad when the tour ended, although I would have liked to have seen more of the grounds. When we got back to the bus, Franco had the scratch smoothed out and you could barely tell it was ever there! Vienna must really dislike President Bush because we also saw on the roof of a building, "Go Home Bush" in big white letters, along with the comment from the ...
