MONDAY: We woke to a massive thunderstorm in Florence, with the lightening even very noticeable in our room! Actually it felt like a welcome relief and certainly wasn't cold outside. Not so great in that we had all our bags and cases to navigate across the road to the train station; so out with the umbrellas and after a quick cuppa, by 9am we were hitting the pavement in the downpour.

We had to laugh at all the shonky salesmen, now out trying to ...

... walked toward the funicular (aka very steep train driven by massive cables up a very steep hill - see video) and on our way chose a pasta Restuarant to lunch at.....Yum. After lunch we boarded the Funicular much to Maureen's distress, but being a good sport we all boarded although I am not sure Maureen actually looked up. More magnificent views to behold almost too much to take ...

    The lighthouse

Again Barbara put on a beautiful spread for breakfast. She also had a cake that is special to Como. Can't remember the name but it was really good.

We decided we would go up the funicular this morning then walk to the lighthouse before it got too hot. Today was again meant to be about 36. The town above Como is called Brunate. It is just a little village with a few shops. There are plenty of walking paths up here and lots of people bike up the hill and down. The funicular ...

... at a most inopportune moment. When we arrived in Como, even I needed a strong drink. Como was very busy with people out shopping. Lisa and Ruth found all the jewellery shops - we also frequented a few makeup and granita shops. We had a lovely afternoon wandering in the sun. We made it home for bourbon and Prosecco in the setting ...

... Hotel in light drizzle (we can cope with that!). Time to sort out our biking luggage into reasonable order before tomorrow's ride up to Alsace in eastern France. A final chance for a quiet relax. Rang home and caught up with things.
Meeting at 7pm for our final evening down in Stresa. Will be sad to leave but it is the sort of place we have all agreed we would revisit with our 'better halves'.
