The hundred-mile barrier

... the plain and lands dominated by man for some 300-treeless kılometres.

Constanza is a busy sea port and tourist destination.  A kebab shop worker advised me to be careful as the city has a few very rich who drıve around flaunting their wealth and a lot of very poor of whom a few aspired at any cost to have what the rich have.  Thus with his advice taken and his kebab making its way into my lower intestine I slept out ...

Golden Sands (Bulgaria) to Constanta (Romania)

Golden Sands (Bulgaria) to Constanta (Romania)

Sunny periods 29 degrees

We left Golden Sands and travelled north to Constanta. The drive was fairly easy as we passed huge fields of barley, corn and sunflower (must be stunning when flowering). We also passed some new wind farms. We crossed the border with a little difficulty as they scrutinised our car paperwork but finally let us continue. We arrived in Constanta without a ...

Relaxing on the Black Sea

... 80s I don't think it's a big deal.

We tried out a lot of the local eateries during our relaxation day and of course we spent some time in the Black Sea. The water was quite clear and cool which is a nice relief on a hot day. I saw a massive jellyfish though which kept me in the shallow area. There weren't many fish to see but it was quite noisy on the beach. I am really curious what the diving is like around here but don't see anything advertised.

Entering Constanta, Romania

... went by and we boarded the bus. I was the only 'foreign' one on board, the rest were either turks or gypsies. Once the bus took off everybody lit up their cigarettes and started smoking. I couldn't wait for this trip to be over with. Had our passports checked at my first Passport Control and then we were over the border into Bulgaria.

BLACK SEA

... the Brits are starting to discover the place and are everywhere. I didn't get my feet into the Black Sea this time, but they have been there before. I rarely swim in California coz I don't like not being able to see what is beneath me, but since there are no harmful fish in the Black...and no tides, I like swimming there. The water temp was just 19 tho, too cold.

Destiny

... quote has become one of our favorite ones of that trip J We had been doing sightseeing till 2pm. I was really impressed by the ancient Roman ruins, the narrow streets and beautiful tenement houses. Randomly I even found the way to the sea. In the afternoon we went to the station to find a mini bus getting us out of the city. Marcin had talked to a DHL driver though and 2 of us saved 2 lei :D. We arrived to Ma-something and had to walk 3 km, in order to get to the ...

Black Sea Area

... especially Canberra). :-) We are both tanned after only a couple of days here (and yes we have been using sun protection). The beaches are sandy and really packed. I took some photos early in the morning and there were already a lot of people. Around lunch time you cannot find a spot to sit on the beach. It was good to have Roxy as she knew all these tricks. On Sunday night we went to one of the resort areas called "Neptune" where they have ...

Scammed in Constanta, Romania

... they just started to follow him. We were led down a side street where we heard the sound of a police car siren pull up and 4 plain clothes police told us to get away from that man, that he was dangerous. We walked away caught the bus and proceeded to Mamaia resort (about 45 mins away). We were told the bus would stop there for 10 mins and then return to town. We strolled around and who did we bump into?, the same guy who ...

Constanta, the end of the world

... know that everyone has experiences like this, and while not everyone may try and articulate them, I know threy're out. Such was my experience on the coast. Beautiful scenery, beautiful weather, a sexy breeze in the air...and a tingly feeling in the depths of my soul. Nights were pretty chill. My mate just got married to another Romanian, and he's an absolute blast. Generous, hilarious, and always willing to spare a cigarrette. Finally, he's someone who drinks nearly ...

... took off into a sunflower field, jumping through ditches and everything. It was great. Also, at this point I was curious as to when they would tell me to slow down. The former driver's face grew from excited to one of concern. I glanced at the commander but he still looked fine. Finally, at around 60 miles per hour offroading, the commander calmly looked at me and said, "okay, slow down." I think he knew what I was doing. What a fun experience.
