... researched what to do outside Milan and found the name of a little town called Sesto Calende. The Ticino River (which runs out of Lake Maggiore) goes right through it. We felt like we won the lottery! We found a perfect place to relax for the day - by the river with a long tree lined walkway filled with cafes and such. We had lunch there and then wandered around the old town. ...

... lakefront where we had a lake cruise waiting. There were huge crowds about celebrating a major religious festival of some sort and we fought our way through the throng to boat a little boat which took us along both sides of the lake to look at all the villas and famous landmarks. Fortified and invigorated by the walk and the positive energy of these people, the following day we ventured forth on our own and walked the three hour forest trail through the hills to Stresa in the opposite direction to the previous day's hike. Again, the trail led us through beautiful scenery with magnificent views across the lake as we climbed steeply ...

... Mostly exciting. We turned this way and that, trying to take in as much as we could and before we knew it the question was verbalised 'where are we'. Ellen thinking she is the queen of Milano took charge saying she knew where we were. Ellen is of course a liar. I was determined to use my fluent Italian and ask the next good looking man 'Parli inglese' (do you speak english) then ask in english where we were, however i was cut short as we turned the corner and again saw ...
