    ... brutalism. The lakes were massively popular in the 1890s and you can see a tramway used to run to the station up the hill from the grand hotels and now dilapidated villas. The palace built for the Borromeo family is at the prow, and inside you can see the bed where Napoleon once stayed for a few nights, and the most interesting rooms, the strange grottoes made with lava stone and pebbles from the lake.
