... and signing refrains from some well known prayer. From across the ghat, we could see large plates of fire being brought out by men in white, illuminating the whole area.

The ceremony lasted only about 30 mins, but was truly a amazing thing to see. First of all we were some of the only western tourists there, not that anyone minded our presence, but it was particularly odd being one of the few who really ...
Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India volitare88... ease, and there was no harassing like you may experience in the cities of India. And I personally enjoyed having cows walking around with us. They are surprisingly adorable. We stayed in the one Ashram in town that had availability, and besides the itchy, disgusting bed bug bites on my legs, the dirty floors and bathroom, and the fact that the power and water only worked part of the time- it was actually a good home for us. We were right in the quiet part of town where cars were not ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India rutherfordmaule... out on the tracks. I had just spend 13 hours on a train. I was hot, tired and hungry and I just didn't want to deal with any B.S. I am sure there are those of you who understand exactly where I am coming from. At the train station I was immediately jumped upon by a rickshaw driver. I shot him a look which had the desired effect. I did not get approached by any more rickshaw drivers. I managed to make it to the bus station and boarded a local bus to Rishikesh with some ...

Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India ulka... is very expensive, almost no one speaks English, and there is no place to go and enjoy the Ganges in the shade when it is sunny and warm enough to go. So I am pretty much stuck in my hotel room on a noisy road. The magnetism of Rishikesh asserts itself once again!

Haridwar, India chardhamyatra... see that as being true. The Guru was a very nice guy though and the yoga teachers and I would probably go back a for a nice chill, the scenery is lovely. There are loads more cows in Rishikesh than anywhere I have seen so far, A funny guy said that because it's so holy they can change all the stray dogs into cows! Whilst I was there I went to a lovely waterfall where there were masses of butterflies and this made me very happy and then we went white water rafting ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India twinsparkle... to say, he declined! Eventually we arrived in Rishikesh and began scouring the town for budget accommo. Everything seemed to be full as it was peak season, but we met a bloke (a tout in disguise!) who took us to a couple of places. We declined the extortionate 700 rupee room he offered us and walked away...however the true owner of the hotel ran after us and said we could have it for 400 rupees - the original price was so expensive because the tout was demanding ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India emex... look British. My eyes, this time; usually it's the hair or beard. One friend remarks that, in appearance and tendency of speech, I strongly remind her of a Peruvian friend, a new one to me. As content as I would have been to just sit around in good company, I came here to learn yoga, so after four days of doing nothing, I started taking some lessons, and began a daily routine that would last two weeks. Though I had other reasons for choosing where I was to take ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India mrconfused... gifts on the bus. Once I realized it I hired a taxi to rush me across the hour trip to maneuver through the mad chaotic Haridwar bus station to find my bus. At one time on this narrow two lane wooded road we passed a bus as a rickshaw was passing us as a scooter was passing the rickshaw and another bus was coming at us in the other lane...insane ...
