... hopes very much that this meeting pans out.

We are back to work on 09-10 for our last seven days as campground hosts. We are both happy and sad. I’m sad because I’m not looking forward to 8 or 9 days on the road when we leave. I hope Val and Dave don’t stop at any of those parking lot campgrounds on the way home. Last trip out into the park...

Last trip out into the park…

Val has wanted to go to Wonder Lake for two summers, and Dave does not want to ride the bus. As the season comes to a close, Val has decided to take the bus to Wonder Lake by herself. It turns out to be a good choice. Val says there is not a lot of narrative to go with the story of her day; the pictures tell the story.

They saw everything on the park road except...A BEAGLE!

Your rare breed,

Remington Beagle
(Are you kidding me?)

When they got to McKinley Village they were stiff after riding for awhile, and the women particularly seemed worn out and they were limping. The women seemed to be in worse shape than the men. Val left them there and returned to Savage Campground ...

Fires n' smoke n' other stuff

... The new cells become blocked, new cells grow around them and on and on. Dave has the bark off, next he will sand it and then put on a coat of varnish or shellac. He’ll finish it when we get home. ... so Val sends them back to the WAC (Wilderness Access Center) or the Merc (Riley Creek Merchantile). While Val is talking to them a red pickup truck pulls up behind the ladies, and the people in the truck are straining to look around the RV so I think that they are just anxious to get around these ladies and on their way, but when the ladies leave the red truck pulls up to where Val is standing. It’s the people on site 15; the site right next to ours ...

... Road - but no fish were found. Val and I walked around the area and took some pictures. Pretty soon it was time to hurry back to camp to turn the generator on and charge up those batteries for a warm trailer through the night. Regards, Remington Beagle P.S. Val was reading a book on Denali, and guess what?! There really is such a thing as Stone Sheep. They are black in color and from the same family as the Dall Sheep. Guess there's stone sheep, and then there's Stone Sheep.

Rose's and Nord Haven

... They have implied that if you aren't in Alaska by the end of July, it can very easily be cold. If this weather continues, I will make some serious route changes, and head south into British Columbia as fast as I can. It is very unfortunate, as there are so many places I hoped to visit in Alaska. All I can do is wait until tomorrow and see what the weather brings. Distance Travelled: 109 Miles 175 Km

Denali National Park

Dean: Tuesday - 1 week in, it seems so much longer :-) We travelled up to Denali National Park from Talkeetna on the Alaskan Railway. The train runs all the way from Steward to Fairbanks, but the Talkeetna-Denali stretch is meant to be one of the best sections. The train is a locomotive but only goes at around 30 mph, so you get to see all of the passing wildlife and views. Unfortunately, the train is so loud that the ...
