... try to make a few bucks by washing car windshields at intersections, helping you parallel park your car, or pan-handling. Here in Paraguay, there are droves of people who try to make their living like this. At a major intersection, there might be two people selling apples, two selling oranges, one selling instant lotto tickets, one selling candy, one selling Paraguayan biscuits called chipa, a team of kids (under 10 years old) washing ...
Asuncion, Paraguay joeleeis... this lush bus to tour the big dam, bus envy aside it was all a bit **** unless you’re into great feats on engineering and I would have preferred to stay in bed. We got a regular bus home, the driver of which had the pleasure of matt falling right into his lap.
Later that evening and despite my concerns we set off on a ‘first choice’ style excursion to an all you can eat (not drink) buffet where we would watch all styles of south American dance ...
... captital the next day, we were shocked by the shabbiness of the city. Paraguay is a very much developing country, so is inevitably a shock at first to someone like myself, only used to visiting rich European countries. It was an amazing experience nonetheless, and the country has a fascinating story to tell.

Notre hôtel lors de notre premier passage ŕ Asunción était vraiment miteux, alors nous ne voulions pas y retourner. Se posait donc le problčme d'oů dormir, et en fin de compte j'ai décidé de nous offrir un petit peu de luxe ...
... days have not been too terribly exciting. Wednesday was another girl in my training group's birthday and we went out after class here in town. I got home back out in the country at about 9 and found my host dad sitting up in the living room with his pistol. Two well known thieves had apparently been spotted in the neighborhood that night, and everyone was on the alert. Everyone knows who the thieves are around our area, or rather who are the ...
Guarambare, Paraguay chriswooley... is damn near uninhabitable by people who are adapted to living off of food and water) We visited all the volunteers from the newest agriculture group and did site presentations for each of them and now we are moving on to visiting the volunteers who have been in their communities for a year. I would say we spend 35% of our time in the office and 65% in the campo, which is why I love what I'm doing. I recently helped organize a ...
Asuncion, Paraguay carrrrin... be 3 stone heavier coming home! This one place, they circle u with meat all nite! Before that we were in the north of Argentina in Carlos Pelligrini. It took us 18 hours by bus (not the original 10 planned!). We were stopped by every police checkpoint and ran into a protest along the way! Its a good way to get a look at the country though ...
Asuncion, Paraguay dixieannie... numbers at least, and the ones that have seem to run the inner-city 'supermarkets'. If there were more, there'd be more Chinese restaurants, long established farther north and west as chifas, and long incorporated into the Peruvian national cuisine, not to mention the business culture, as common members of the Pacific Rim. That's too bad. Looking for a Chinese restaurant is usually the first thing I do when I enter a new country or city. As it is the ...

Asuncion, Paraguay nicostoetter... the expectation that eventually they will see some monetary reward. One possibility is paying them a portion of the proceeds from the computer classes that are currently being taught. These classes - 3 sessions each week of 3 hours each - are almost completely full, and people are still coming to us asking if they can get in. So far the demand indicates the computer lab is providing a highly desired service. That's about all I have time to write...enjoy the photos!
