It's been a hectic few days, getting ready for this trip, but finally I'm on my way! Pegasus Airlines cancelled my Istanbul to Konya flight and I didn't find out till late Sunday! Managed to rebook for the next morning (Wed) and find a room in the airport hotel. Now I'm on my way ...

Hi Everyone,

Exciting exit for us, Matt, Maddi, Ross and I from Brisbane and 14hrs into Dubai. Had a great flight and whisked to our hotel in 2xMercedes (don't you love Dubai). It was 42deg (don't you hate Dubai) and I do not have to tell you it was bloody hot. Needless to say we spent our day in the huge shopping mall attached to our hotel, 3 storey high aquarium, ice rink, sega world fun park with huge rides, a shopper and kids paradise.

The town was like ...

... name was Ann-Sylvie and she was on her way to visit her parents who live in Geneva. She works in insurance. She has also visited Australia and spent four months in Sydney doing an internship combined with travel, back in 1989. It was strange hearing a French woman say she had travelled by car from Darwin to Alice Springs and had been to Ayers Rock. Her pronunciation was just charming. She commented that for such a famous site there were very few people there, only a couple of ...

... something for Day 3 - the marathon stage. The Col des Saisies as a first climb of 13kms was not at all taxing, followed by a beautiful descent down to the village of Flumet.

Then things got serious with the Cormet de Roselend reaching 1967m over a 20km climb and the finish line in Val d'Isère iat 1840m, again after a climb of about 22km. I stayed ahead of the cut off time by about 15-30 minutes at each aid ...
