... After a celebratory drink we made our way back to the bus stop and managed to buy some tickets this time. The younger generation slept the whole journey , anyone would have thought they had done a triathlon. We stocked up at the supermarket with BBQ food and more beer, before returning back to base camp. As usual Duncan was in charge of an excellent BBQ and I wrongly thought we had bought too much food and drink. Evening games ended a very successful day ...

... we would take them back to the campsite by car as it is uphill from the city and navigating through the Geneva streets could be tricky, so it was a case of dismantling the tandem in the underground car park and putting it on the roof rack this was all very complicated and technical. I was panicking because I paid for the car park which was mega bucks and If you don't go out within a certain time it might not accept ...

... the blinker on the bus made the noise of a truck backing up. I found this very odd and noticed in France that the bus made the normal blinker sound when the blinker was turned on. Another thing I noticed as soon as we got on the bus was that there were two stoplights for every corner with arrows in them (one of the lights pointed straight and the other pointed to either the left or the right) as well as the light changing from red to yellow to let you know the green is coming ...

... also a few bus routes that would get us all the way there. We messed around with the ticket kiosk for a while, purchased our two tickets and then realized we had no idea which line to take. We knew the direction but all the lines seemed to be blurred out so we went back to the information desk and asked for help as opposed to trying to figure it ourselves. The nice lady at the desk spoke English and told us to take line 14 to line 12 which would get us to ...

... something for Day 3 - the marathon stage. The Col des Saisies as a first climb of 13kms was not at all taxing, followed by a beautiful descent down to the village of Flumet.

Then things got serious with the Cormet de Roselend reaching 1967m over a 20km climb and the finish line in Val d'Isère iat 1840m, again after a climb of about 22km. I stayed ahead of the cut off time by about 15-30 minutes at each aid ...
