... of eight from there to the hotel in their minivan.

The trams are great: clean, cheap, and all electric. The city of Geneva (from what I could see) was really clean too, with recycling bins everywhere there's a rubbish bin. The water here even tastes like New Zealand water! The hotel is really nice too, with big modern rooms. Definitely nice to have some space after ...

... flight to Geneva, Switzerland, Sunday, July 13. It was rainy, so there was no visibility for the first half of the flight. Eventually, I noticed that there were some white clouds sticking up above the rest of the mostly level surface of the clouds, like islands in the Caribbean. Nope, not clouds, but mountain tops. All in a line. And there's one really, really big one at the end. Mont Blanc as I came to realize.

home. After a death-defying drive to find a gas station in Annecy (why so much construction, France?), we parked in the centre ville and spent about $25 doing laundry at a small lavarie. The smell of clean clothes is WONDERFUL. While we waited for the clothes to dry, we
had another yummy meal at Chez Mamie Lise, a restaurant decorated like a Swiss ski chalet. The waitress was ...

... something for Day 3 - the marathon stage. The Col des Saisies as a first climb of 13kms was not at all taxing, followed by a beautiful descent down to the village of Flumet.

Then things got serious with the Cormet de Roselend reaching 1967m over a 20km climb and the finish line in Val d'Isère iat 1840m, again after a climb of about 22km. I stayed ahead of the cut off time by about 15-30 minutes at each aid ...
