After two flights full of some "intereting" people, we finally arrived in Bishkek. We were a little anxious about getting into the country as we had heard (read actually, from the US Travel Alert site) that Kyrgyz's customs officials were corrupt and would ask for bribes. Fortunately, we did not need to shell out any Marlebo Reds as we moved smoothly through customs. Our first point of contact in Bishkek was our driver from the guesthouse we were staying at. He quickly escorted us to the gues...
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan broncosWell, sorry for the delay in this specific post (err, if you count a month as a delay). The lack of photos for Kyrgzstan is also my fault as I somehow lost all those I took in Bishkek and beyond. Russell has some and should be posting soon. Anyway, our last stop in Kyrgzstan was the small border town of Nayrn. It was similar to Bishkek, but at a much smaller scale and completely without Russians (at least that we saw). It also lacked an ATM which proved to be one of our more harrowing trip mo...

I'm soooo relaxed. I sleep late and do a leisurely bit of catching up. I take the camera and explore Bishkek, the bits that I did not see on my way to/from the Russian consulate. In the morning clouds of dust rise as people sweep the pavements with brooms. The population appears to be incredibly young. Children, neatly dressed in uniforms go to school. Students hang around colleges and institutes talking animatedly, as ...
We have been in the spectacularly beautiful (and mercifully calm and serene) country of Kyrgyzstan for 4 days now, and at last, access to internet. Kyrgyzstan is not known for its dazzling cities or historical relics, but rather its stunning scenery of snow capped mountains, green hills, turquoise alpine lakes and rich pastures. We crossed over four days ago from the Torugat pass, a border crossing technically not open to foreigners, but as always in Asia, there ...
Bishkek, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan fearcuairt... all this go on? The boys invited us along and travelling as a four had its advantages in Kyrgyzstan - shared guide and taxi costs and the guarantee of quick departures. For us, there was the extra advantage of one of them speaking Russian! And so we began the first part of our Kyrgyzstan adventure.
At the Birds of Prey Festival turned put to include just three Golden Eagles and one Falcon, and we all began to understand that the definition ...
Salut a Tous,

In the world, there are very few mountains comparable by their beauty with this snow-clad giant. Words are flat and helpless when you talk of the Khan Tengri’s beauty. You must see it with your own eyes. The sunset at the Peak is stunning: surrounding mountains are drowning in the dusk while the Peak, dominating over all other mountains around, turns flaming red in the rays of the sitting sun and clouds ...
This trekking is designed for the fans of horse riding who are keen to visit picturesque, intact corners of nature. The trek takes place in the mountains of Western Tien Shan and comprises a vast area, including the Kirghiz natural sanctuary “Sarichelek”.
We start from the garden-clad Fergana valley, a pearl of Central Asia, through which the Great Silk Road passed. The ...
... did not add up to us.
Young people wearing flesh hugging t-shirts with lycra leggings and highest of heels strolled along the streets or freely embraced along the roadsides or in the parks. Like Tashkent, it was almost as if these young people had just discovered liberation. And it was hard NOT to notice. We were intrigued at the seemingly outrageous dress and behaviour in what we thought would be a very conservative nation.
As Alan so ...
