The Chinese boarder patrol would not let me leave the airport to go exploring because my flight to Berlin was 7 hours away. If it had been 8 hours they would have let me through customs! That one hour difference meant that I had to sit in an expensive airport cafe without internet and pay $12 for a poorly made hot chocolate and $15 for a small bowl of pumpkin soup. Misery. we returned to the hotel around 5 pm and had a quiet dinner at the hotel. Food was good and the price was reasonable. Ambience was spoilt by kids who are allowed the run of the place at restaurant in China - I guess this must be the "Little Emperors" syndrome that people talk about. Since families are only allowed 1 kid and they are generally allowed to behave in any manner even in public.

Noticed that the traffic here is certainly more orderly after the chaos in India and Nepal.
Went exploring the town using the subway. It is pretty easy getting around town using their subway. The stations have English names as well so it made it quite easy. However the staff at the stations do not speak English.
